We are finally back in the house, and I had the best sleep last night.

I’m still not quite sure how we managed it, but all of the renovations were finished in time for us to move back in. There are still a few little touch-ups to be done, but it feels so good to be home again.

With surgery coming up in the next couple of weeks, I’ll be taking some time to rest and recover afterwards.

I’m now taking bookings from mid-October onwards and really looking forward to welcoming you back into my space again.

Warmly Jo

There is a quiet language in our hands.

Before we say a word, our hands can express comfort, connection, intention and care. They can hold, soothe, offer and receive.

Even the simple direction of our palms can carry meaning.

A palm turned upward can represent receiving — allowing yourself to receive support, calm, love or whatever you may need in that moment.

A palm turned downward can represent releasing — letting go of heaviness, tension or anything that no longer feels yours to carry.

Sometimes we don't need to overthink what we need.

We can simply pause, notice our body and listen.

Do I need to receive right now?

Or do I need to release?

You might even place one palm upward and the other downward, taking a few slow breaths and allowing yourself to be present with whatever comes up.

Our bodies often communicate long before our minds have found the words.

Sometimes the smallest, simplest practices can help us reconnect with ourselves.

For a while now, I've been on a quiet inward journey.

The past month away from work, while we've been navigating renovations and the unexpected twists that came with them, has given me something I wasn't expecting... space. Space to see the parts of myself I'd been too busy to notice.

It brought my shadows to the surface.

For a while, I found myself fearful of what others were projecting onto me. I questioned myself. I carried stories that weren't even mine. But slowly I realised something important: we all have light, and we all have shadow. Neither makes us good or bad. They simply make us human.

Instead of pushing my fears away, I chose to sit with them.

I listened. I offered them compassion. I stopped trying to fight them or fix them.

And eventually I came to a simple conclusion...

The fears I once wanted to get rid of were never asking to control me. They were asking to be seen, understood, and loved.

That isn't weakness.

That's wholeness.

Sometimes healing isn't about becoming someone new. It's about returning to yourself and embracing every part of who you are with a little more compassion.

Pause. Release. Reconnect.

P.S. The carpet went in today! Looking forward to finally moving back home.

When was the last time you hugged your mum, dad, gran or grandad?

Something I’ve become increasingly aware of through my work is just how important the simple act of human touch can be.

I have quite a few older clients who come to me, and sometimes I realise that massage offers them something beyond easing tired or aching muscles.

It offers connection.

As we get older, life changes. Children grow up and leave home. We may lose a partner. Families become busy with their own lives. And without anyone really noticing, those everyday hugs and little moments of physical connection can become fewer and further between.

A hand on a shoulder.
A warm hug.
Someone simply sitting close.

They seem like such small things, but they can mean so much.

So perhaps this is a little reminder to visit your mum, your dad, your gran or your grandad when you can.

And when you do, give them an extra-long hug.

Sometimes the simplest form of connection is the one we need most.

Small shifts can make a difference.

Sometimes supporting your nervous system can begin with something surprisingly simple.

Here are 6 gentle ways to help your body slow down, settle and reset:

1. Lengthen your exhale
Breathe in gently, then allow your exhale to be a little longer. A slower, longer exhale can help encourage the body towards a calmer state.

2. Step into the morning light
Spend a few minutes outside after waking. Natural morning light helps support your body clock, sleep-wake cycle and daytime alertness.

3. Relax your jaw
Notice if you're clenching. Let your jaw soften, allow your teeth to separate slightly and relax your tongue.

4. Feel your feet
Place both feet firmly on the floor and notice the sensation beneath them. Take a few slow breaths and bring your attention back into your body.

5. Release your shoulders
Take a breath in and gently lift your shoulders. As you breathe out, let them drop. Repeat a few times and notice where else you're holding tension.

6. Place a hand on your heart
Rest one hand over your heart and the other over your belly. Slow your breathing and simply stay there for a moment.

You don't always need to think your way into feeling better.

Sometimes the body can help show the mind the way.

There’s something pretty special about seeing someone walk out feeling a little more like themselves than when they walked in.

A little update from behind the scenes...

We have a couple more weeks before we move back home, and things are slowly starting to come together.

Over the next week I'll be painting three rooms, the tiles at the back door are now done, and in a couple of weeks the new carpet will be going down.

Unfortunately, we've discovered a leak coming from the shower, which means the laundry and front room won't be finished before we move back in. I think the insurance company will know me by name shortly!

Sometimes you just have to go with the flow when things don't quite go to plan.

Then comes the not-so-exciting job of moving everything back in, putting curtains up and making the house feel like home again.

I will be opening my doors for appointments for the week of 24 August before taking another six weeks off, with my surgery now happening in early September.

It's certainly been a season of change around here, but we're getting there, one step at a time.

Warmly
Jo

One of my mentors quite often says,

“The longest journey is the six inches from your head to your heart.”

And the more I experience life, the more I understand what she means.

We can know something logically long before we truly feel it.

We can know it's time to let go.
Know that something is outside of our control.
Know that we are going to be okay.
Know what we need.
Know what our inner wisdom has been trying to tell us all along.

But knowing something and living from that knowing are two very different things.

Sometimes the mind gets there first, while the heart needs a little more time.

Perhaps healing isn't always about finding another answer or trying to understand more. Sometimes it's allowing what we already know to slowly make its way from the head to the heart.

And when it finally lands, we don't just understand it anymore.

We trust it.

Warmly Jo
