BROW REMOVAL TAKES PATIENCE

Tattoo removal is a process and every brow has its own history.

Most cosmetic brow tattoos can be significantly lightened or removed within 2–4 sessions, but there is no one-size-fits-all number.

In this case, treatment one targeted the darker tones of pigment first. As this pigment broke down and cleared, the underlying red tones became more visible.

Treatment two then targeted the remaining red pigment using a wavelength specifically suited to that colour.

This is a great example of why cosmetic tattoo removal often requires more than one treatment. Different colours within the pigment may need to be targeted progressively.

How many sessions you’ll need can depend on:

• The type and composition of pigment/ink originally used
• The age of the tattoo and how many times it has been worked over
• The depth and density of pigment implanted into the skin
• Previous colours, corrections or layers of tattooing
• Your individual skin health, healing response and lymphatic clearance

Each laser session breaks pigment down progressively, allowing the body time to clear those fragmented particles between treatments.

We cannot rush biology.

Our goal isn’t to remove your brows aggressively. It’s to achieve effective clearance while respecting the integrity of the skin. Particularly if the end goal is a beautiful new set of brows.

When working with experienced skin, building colour slowly and progressively is the secret to beautifully healed cosmetic tattoo brows.

Sometimes I’ll recommend three treatments rather than two — not because we need to push more pigment into the skin, but because we don’t.

Less trauma. Controlled colour. Beautifully healed results.

If I recommend that extra session, it’s because I’m thinking about the final healed result, not just how your brows look when you leave the clinic.

COLOUR CORRECTION IS A PROCESS 🎨

Corrective cosmetic tattooing isn’t simply a matter of putting brown over an old brow.

When PMU ages, different components of the original pigment can remain in the skin, leaving brows looking grey, ashy, cool or an unwanted tone.

For this client, the existing shape was workable — the colour and remaining residue was what needed our attention.

STEP 1 — Assess + Correct
We assessed the residual pigment, mapped and checked the existing brow placement, then selected our correction colour to counteract the unwanted cool tones - treatment one in image 2.

We then allowed that correction to fully heal and reveal what the skin retained.

STEP 2 — Reassess + Colour Burst
At the next appointment, we could see exactly where the colour had balanced and what was still required. A Colour Burst allowed us to introduce the desired brow tone, refresh faded areas and bring greater depth and definition back into the brows.

STEP 3 → Review in 4 weeks to reassess healed results and build more colour and retention if needed. A slower more respectful approach allows the healed results to be the best possible, rather than opting to over saturate the skin with pigment or opt for an undesirable colour choice just to ‘hide’ the old PMU and lead to more challenging maintenance in the future.

Corrective PMU is a journey, and sometimes achieving the right colour and healed results requires more than one treatment.

The important part is knowing what colour is already in the skin, what needs to be neutralised, and what needs to be added next.

Because adding more pigment isn’t always the answer. 🤎

Not every old cosmetic tattoo needs to be removed or lightened with laser first.

For this client, we were able to carefully redesign and refresh her brows over the existing old PMU, working with what was already there to create a softer, more flattering result.

The goal was to bring back definition while restoring the brows and keeping them age-appropriate.

Working over old PMU requires careful assessment — colour, saturation, shape and placement all matter. Sometimes we can successfully refresh and camouflage what is there; other times, lightening or removal may be recommended before creating something new.

These are freshly treated brows, so the colour will soften 30-40% and settle beautifully throughout the healing process to merge with the old pigment underneath.
