I remember when Dermaplaning first came out, we rushed off to do the training & were excited to offer it to our clients.
The treatment promised to smoothen skin texture, reduce pigment and remove vellous hair.
As we continue to educate ourselves, the skin world is slowly understanding that the stratum corneum (top skin layer) IS NOT DEAD! and removing it continuously, is creating barrier issues.
Even if we are targeting the vellous hair as a treatment, we will inadvertently be scraping off those top cells with a razor sharp blade which creates barrier issues over time.
So it was removed off our treatment menu a long time ago, but every now and then someone will ask for it, or I hear they are doing themselves at home.
