Healed lip blush on mature lips 🤎

Despite cold sore outbreaks during healing after both sessions, I’m so pleased with how nicely these lips have healed.

With mature, sun-damaged lips, the goal is improvement. Restoring colour and gently enhancing definition while working with the skin we have.

Adding colour won’t change the skin’s texture or erase lines and sun damage. Those remain part of the lips, even with a beautiful healed result.

A little more colour, a little more definition, and still naturally her. 🤎

Dark lip neutralisation 👄

This service is for people with naturally darker pigmentation or uneven colour in their lips, particularly cool brown, purple or grey tones, who would like a softer, more balanced lip colour.

Carefully selected warm pigments help visually balance those cooler tones. It’s a gradual process, and multiple sessions may be needed depending on the starting colour and how the lips heal.

These photos show the result immediately after treatment. The lips are temporarily swollen from the tattooing process, and the fresh pigment, along with treatment redness, makes the colour look particularly bright.

The swelling will settle and the colour will soften as they heal. We assess the healed result before deciding on the next step 🤍

She wanted her brows tattooed, but she didn’t want anyone to know.

Her brief was “mine, but better.” Very natural. Just a slight enhancement.

And that’s exactly how they healed.

But when she returned for her check-up, I caught myself preparing for a conversation I’ve had many times before:

“I love them… but can we go darker?”

“Natural” means something different to everyone. Even after a thorough consultation, some clients realise they want a more noticeable result once their brows have healed.

This client loved how undetectable hers were.

And I felt something I wasn’t expecting: relief.

It made me question why I’d become so used to expecting that a soft result wouldn’t be enough.

Her brow hairs still do the heavy lifting. The tattoo quietly supports them. Making them wider or darker would have taken us further from what she actually wanted.

She can add makeup on days she wants a bolder brow. Her everyday result doesn’t have to do everything.

As an artist, I’m thinking beyond the fresh reveal. I’m thinking about what we’re leaving in the skin for the years ahead.

This client reminded me that a subtle enhancement can be deeply appreciated, even when it doesn’t make a dramatic before-and-after.

She didn’t want a dramatic transformation. She wanted to recognise herself in the mirror, with her brows just a little more complete.

And the fact that she loved exactly that gave me hope for the future of cosmetic brow tattooing.

When I tell you how much I’ve been researching sun damaged lips and how pigments behave in the skin… 😮‍💨

Mature lips with significant sun damage can be challenging to work with. The goal is to improve colour and definition within the limitations of the tissue, rather than promise the same finish we might achieve on lips without sun damage.

But “they just don’t heal well” has never felt like enough of an answer to me. I want to understand why, what we can adapt, and how we can achieve better results for the skin in front of us.

I’m still learning, still researching, and results like this make me feel like I’m getting closer 🤍

Soft definition, a warm blonde tone and a shape that works with her natural features. Sometimes the smallest details make such a lovely difference.

Her lips were already beautiful. We just gave them a little oomph 🤎

I followed her natural shape and added a richer wash of colour for a bit more definition. This is the fresh result, so the colour will soften as it heals.

Sometimes a little is all you need.

She came in wearing a softly applied dark brown pencil. It suited her, but I didn’t want to copy that colour directly into her skin.

Makeup sits on top of the skin and washes off. Tattoo pigment heals within the skin and changes over time. Even applied softly, a dark brown pigment could eventually read cooler and greyer than the pencil she loves.

So I chose a lighter, warmer colour for her brows. I also gave them a defined border. Her skin is thicker, and I expect some softening as they heal, so that little bit of extra structure helps the shape hold its own.

The goal was to understand what she liked about her makeup, then create a brow that makes sense as a tattoo 🤎

Let the brow hairs do the heavy lifting 🤎

When choosing a colour for permanent brows, I am not trying to match the darkest brow hairs.

The natural hairs already add darkness, texture and dimension. The pigment underneath only needs to create a soft background and fill the gaps.

By choosing a softer brown and leaving negative space between the pixels, the finished brow can still look beautifully defined without implanting an unnecessarily dark or ashy colour.

Less reliance on black pigment also gives the colour a better chance of remaining brown for longer as it ages.

The tattoo should support the brow, not overpower it.
