GORETEX SAFETY PROFILE: Why Goretex?

Goretex, or expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), has a relatively well-established safety record in nasal dorsal augmentation, particularly when used in carefully selected patients with adequate soft-tissue coverage.

A systematic review of 7,759 patients reported overall complications of 5.3% with ePTFE versus 9.2% with silicone.

Practical takeaway:
For dorsal augmentation, Goretex can be considered a biocompatible and relatively stable alloplastic option, but it is not complication-free. The safety profile depends substantially on patient selection, implant positioning, soft-tissue coverage, sterile technique, implant handling, and surgical experience.

TIP PLASTY RHINOPLASTY

Ideal candidates for Tip Plasty are patients who are primarily concerned with the shape, projection, or definition of the nasal tip, while the nasal bridge is relatively satisfactory.

Common concerns include:

* Bulbous or poorly defined nasal tip
* Wide or rounded tip
* Drooping or underprojected tip
* Asymmetrical nasal tip
* Thick or bulky tip appearance
* Unfavorable tip–alar relationship

Tip plasty can refine and reshape the tip while preserving the overall character of the nose, with techniques tailored to the patient’s anatomy and desired result.

Not every patient is a candidate for tip plasty alone; a complete nasal assessment is necessary to determine whether the bridge, septum, or alar structures also require correction.
