Understanding ourselves is the first step. Putting that understanding into practice is where real change happens.
That is the difference between mental health education and mental fitness, and it is the heart of my work.
I’m honored to be on the cover of Global Healthcare Magazine’s “The Most Visionary Mental Health Leaders of 2026” edition. Thank you to the Global Healthcare Magazine team for sharing this story with readers across the U.S. and around the world.
The feature explores how I bridge Eastern and Western perspectives in psychology, and the mission behind Journey Health: making practical psychological tools part of everyday life at home, in schools, at work, and in our communities.
Mental fitness isn’t built through grand gestures. It’s built in small moments:
Pausing before reacting.
Bringing our attention back to what matters.
Meeting ourselves with kindness while owning our next step.
Self-kindness and accountability aren’t opposites. They work best together.
To everyone who has supported Journey Health along the way, thank you. This recognition belongs to you too.
I’d love to hear from you: what’s one mental fitness practice you’d like to bring into your daily life or workplace?

What if we trained our minds the way we train our bodies? 🧠🌿

You don’t have to wait until you’re overwhelmed, burned out, anxious, or struggling to take care of your mental health.

You can practice it.

You can strengthen your attention.
Become more flexible with difficult emotions.
Build a kinder—and more accountable—relationship with yourself.
Learn to recover instead of staying stuck.
And create small practices that actually fit into your life.

That’s why I created the Journey Health Mental Fitness Community.

This isn’t about becoming a “perfect” version of yourself.

It’s about becoming more able to meet your life as it is—with greater clarity, flexibility, resilience, self-trust, and intention.

Inside the community, I’ll be sharing:

🧠 Practical Mental Fitness exercises
🌿 Weekly psychology-based practices
📘 Member-only workbooks & resources
💬 Monthly Lives with me
✨ New tools, reflections & content
🎁 Special member benefits

And we’re just getting started.

You can join FREE and become part of this growing community—or choose a paid membership if you’d like to go deeper.

Your mind deserves more than crisis care.
It deserves regular care, practice, and growth.

You’re kind to everyone. But how do you talk to yourself? 💛

You reassure a friend who’s struggling—but tell yourself you should be doing better.

You give others room to make mistakes—but replay your own for hours.

With work, relationships, family, and pressure to keep up, you deserve support from yourself, too.

Join me LIVE for “You’re Kind to Everyone—Except Yourself.”

We’ll explore how to:
✨ Notice harsh self-talk.
🌿 Practice kindness without giving up your goals.
🧠 Become your own ally through small, everyday exercises.

Drawing on The Journey to Self, I’ll share practical ways to build a more supportive relationship with yourself.

You don’t have to earn kindness by getting everything right.

Save the date and send this to someone who could use a gentler voice—including you. 💛

The conversation ended. Your mind is still replaying it. 🧠

Between work, relationships, family responsibilities, and endless notifications, it’s easy to feel pulled in every direction.

Growing up in Japan, I practiced Kendo. Today, as a psychologist, I see how its concepts connect with the mental fitness skills we need in everyday life:

🎯 Attention fitness: Notice what captures your attention—and practice choosing where it goes next.

🌊 Emotional flexibility: Make room for frustration, uncertainty, or disappointment while choosing your response.

🌿 Acceptance: Let a thought be there without letting it run your day.

✨ Resilience: Return to your center after a difficult meeting, tense conversation, or unexpected setback.

You can care deeply without carrying everything all day.

In my new article, East Meets West, I explore what Kendo taught me about attention, emotion, acceptance, and returning to our inner center.

Save this for a day when everything feels like too much.

You can take responsibility and still be kind to yourself ❤️

Mental health is something we can practice before life falls apart. 🌱
It shows up in the pause before we react. In how we handle uncertainty. In the way we speak to ourselves after a hard day.
I’m joining Vigilantes Radio Live on October 1 to talk about The Journey to Self and the small practices that help us build a healthier relationship with ourselves.
What’s one response you’re practicing lately: pausing, setting a boundary, or being kinder to yourself? Tell me below. Follow Akira Olsen, PsyD for more practical mental fitness tools.

🧠 Your mind needs training—not perfection.

We work out our bodies, upgrade our phones, and optimize our schedules…but how often do we intentionally strengthen our minds?

**Mental fitness** means building practical skills that help you:

✨ Think more clearly
⚡ Take action—even when motivation is low
🌱 Recover from setbacks
🎯 Strengthen focus and confidence
🧘 Create greater balance and well-being

You don’t have to have everything figured out. Mental fitness is built through small, intentional actions—one choice, one skill, and one day at a time.

**Optimize your mind. Elevate your life.** For service inquiry, 👉https://calendly.com/drakiraolsen

🌿 LIVE RECAP: Why do people get under your skin?
Ever replay a comment for hours? In today’s Live, we discussed why certain people trigger us and how to manage it. Often, we’re reacting to an old insecurity or fear, not just the situation itself.
Ask yourself: “Am I solving the problem, or replaying the pain?”
When triggered, try these 4 steps:
1. Check the facts: What actually happened?
2. Notice the story: What assumptions are you adding?
3. Look inside: What is this activating in you?
4. Choose your response: What protects your well-being?
Regulation isn’t about accepting disrespect—it’s about choosing your next move, whether that’s setting a boundary or taking space.
“I may not control how someone behaves, but I can choose what happens next inside me.”
