🐝 BACK IN PRODUCTION! | Propolis Throat Spray

We're currently out of stock, so it's time to prepare a new batch of our propolis throat spray!

Behind this little bottle is something fascinating: the science of propolis.

🔬 Why Is Propolis Interesting?

Propolis is a resinous material collected by bees from plants and mixed with beeswax and their own secretions. Bees use it as part of their natural colony defense system.

Scientific studies have identified several interesting properties:

🌿 Antimicrobial potential – Certain propolis compounds have demonstrated activity against bacteria and fungi in laboratory studies.

🌿 Anti-inflammatory properties – Research suggests that some components may help regulate inflammatory processes.

🌿 Antioxidant activity – Propolis contains phenolic compounds and flavonoids that can help neutralize free radicals.

🌿 Oral health applications – Some clinical studies have investigated propolis preparations for oral conditions, including mouth sores, although the evidence is still limited.

These properties make propolis an interesting subject for further research and product development. However, its effectiveness depends on its composition, concentration, and formulation. Not every propolis product has the same properties or proven benefits.

A little reminder: Propolis can cause allergic reactions, particularly among people sensitive to bee products. Natural doesn't automatically mean risk-free.

One batch at a time, one discovery at a time.

🐝 Day 2 | Stingless Beekeeping Training (Meliponiculture)
Small Bees, Big Possibilities!

The second and final day of our stingless beekeeping workshop in Boac, Marinduque focused on something exciting: making value-added products from bee propolis!

We explored the preparation of propolis-based products, including tinctures and ointments, opening up possibilities for farmers to make better use of this valuable bee product.

Beyond learning how to make these products, we hope this knowledge will inspire our local farmers to appreciate the value of their bees even more, encourage proper colony care, and discover additional livelihood opportunities through meliponiculture.

After all, beekeeping is not just about harvesting honey. There is so much more that these little pollinators can offer! 🐝🌿

Our sincere thanks to Pia’s Bee Farm, DA-APCO Marinduque, and DA MIMAROPA for sharing their knowledge and making this two-day learning experience possible.

It was a pleasure learning and growing alongside fellow farmers from Mogpog, Boac, and Gasan.

Here's to more inspired beekeepers, healthier colonies, and bigger possibilities for our local communities!

TRAINING ON STINGLESS BEEKEEPING (MELIPONICULTURE)
Small Bees, Big Possibilities!

📅 September 29–30, 2026
📍 Hotel Marinduque Isok, Boac, Marinduque

Two days of learning, sharing, and discovering more about the fascinating world of stingless bees!

Special thanks to Mr. Lee Gaitana and Garry Caverte of PIA's Bee Farm for sharing his knowledge and expertise in stingless beekeeping.

Our training covered:
* Proper hive location and site selection
* Bee biology and colony behavior
* Colony profiling
*Colony management, especially during the Habagat season

Stingless bees may be small, but their role in our ecosystem is significant. Understanding their biology and proper management is an important step toward sustainable meliponiculture and pollinator conservation.

Always a pleasure to learn something new, connect with fellow bee enthusiasts, and deepen our appreciation for these little pollinators!

Small bees, big impact! 🐝

The fire at AGCHEM in Canlubang, Laguna yesterday is honestly concerning, especially for those of us who keep bees and care about the animals around us.

We’re around 17–21 km away, and thankfully, it doesn’t appear that the smoke is reaching us directly at the moment. But smoke and airborne pollutants can potentially travel beyond the immediate area depending on wind direction and weather conditions, so I think it’s still important to remain cautious and pay attention to official advisories.

Our bees seem to be okay for now, but I can’t help worrying about them and especially about the local animals and strays that have no way of avoiding whatever may be carried through the air.

For those near the affected area, please take extra precautions:

• If there’s still visible smoke or a strong burning/chemical smell, stay indoors.
• Keep windows and doors closed to reduce smoke entering your home.
• Avoid unnecessary outdoor activities while smoke is present.
• If you need to go outside, a properly fitted N95 may help reduce exposure to airborne particles.
• Keep in mind that an N95 does not protect against all chemical gases or vapors.
• Most importantly, follow official advisories from the BFP, LGU, and health/environmental authorities.
Stay safe, everyone—and please keep an eye on your pets, bees, livestock, and the stray animals around you.

Supposedly, I was planning on making propolis lozenges…

And somehow, I ended up making a BIG MESS. 😅

The good news: I actually managed to reach the hard candy stage!

The bad news: apparently, pouring molten candy neatly into molds is an entirely different skill tree.

I honestly wonder how professional candy makers do it so effortlessly especially those candies with perfectly placed cute little pictures inside. Like… HOW?! Is there some secret candy-making wizardry that nobody told me about?

Clearly, I still need more practice with the pouring and molding part. But hey, science experiment successful enough!

On the bright side, I now have a supply of propolis candy to enjoy for the next few days. So technically… I made a mess, but at least it's a delicious and potentially soothing mess.

Will try again for another "Insomnia Project".
