In celebration of the 52nd Nutrition Month, letโs get to know ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐จ. 11148, also known as the ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ง ๐๐ญ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฒ๐จ๐ง ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ -๐๐๐ง๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ญ or the First 1,000 Days Law.
The First 1,000 Days of Lifeโfrom conception until a child reaches 2 years oldโis the most critical period for a child's growth and brain development.
RA 11148 strengthens health and nutrition programs for adolescent females, pregnant and lactating women, and children by ensuring access to essential services such as prenatal care, immunization, proper nutrition, breastfeeding support, and nutrition education.
This landmark law supports the goals of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023โ2028 and its vision of "๐๐๐ฆ๐-๐ฌ๐๐ฆ๐ ๐ฌ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฒ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ญ ๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฌ๐ ๐๐๐ก๐๐ญ." By investing in the First 1,000 Days, we can help prevent stunting, wasting, other forms of malnutrition, illness, and developmental delaysโgiving every Filipino child the best start in life.
๐ Together, let us build a healthier future through the First 1,000 Days and achieve Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) supports the Department of Healthโs (DOH) advisory reminding the public to remain vigilant against hantaviruses and other rodent-borne diseases through proper sanitation, food safety, and preventive health practices.
While there are currently no confirmed cases of hantavirus in the Philippines, maintaining clean surroundings and observing proper hygiene remain important in reducing health risks associated with rodent infestation and environmental contamination.
The NNC also encourages the public to follow the Pinggang Pinoy food guide by consuming balanced meals consisting of Go, Grow, and Glow foods in appropriate portions. Staying properly hydrated, maintaining an active lifestyle, and making healthy food choices are likewise important in promoting overall health and well-being, especially during the summer season.
To help prevent rodent-borne diseases:
- Keep homes and surroundings clean
- Store food and water properly
- Practice proper waste disposal
- Avoid direct contact with rodent droppings and nesting materials
- Wear gloves and face masks when cleaning potentially contaminated areas
- Disinfect contaminated surfaces before sweeping or wiping to minimize airborne particles
Individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, or difficulty breathing following possible exposure to rodents are advised to seek immediate medical consultation.
By keeping our surroundings clean, practicing proper hygiene, and making healthy lifestyle and food choices, we can all contribute to preventing disease and promoting safer and healthier communities.
