Gentle movement matters. Fascia and other connective tissues are continually compressed, stretched, and released as we breathe and move. Interstitial spaces are found especially in tissues subjected to repeated mechanical motion.
For many years, anatomy was taught largely in terms of organs, muscles, bones, blood vessels, and nerves. Yet between these familiar structures lies an extensive network of connective tissue and fluid known as the interstitium.
Practices such as Qigong and Tai Chi repeatedly alternate expansion and contraction, shifting weight and gently mobilizing large areas of connective tissue. Regular movement also supports circulation, mobility, and the normal exchange of fluids throughout the tissues.

When I was in Hongkong many years ago I watched a group of people practising tai chi in one of the parks. They moved slowly and deliberately, each posture having a clear beginning and end while flowing seamlessly into the next.
I felt the same kind of grounding energy even as a spectator when I watched a group practice near Ayala mall in Cebu, at the old Capitol grounds in Pasig before it became Capitol Commons, at the Singapore Botanic gardens and many other places.
The slowness of tai chi is the reason many people wouldn't do it :-) People don't realise that it is the slowness that calms your mind, the slowness which makes you do your form properly instead of hiding your mistakes through speed. It is the slowness that activates your parasympathetic nervous system (the rest and relax aspect of your nervous system).
Classes are ongoing. 4pm today, Wednesday and 10am this Saturday, September 26. Message us for more information.

The human body is designed to move.
Tai chi helps us move our body in a safe, enjoyable and harmonious way. With regular practice, it can help us strengthen the body and mind while supporting many of the natural processes that keep us healthy.

When you have a fall it didn't start because you tripped right there and then. It happens because your balance has disappeared slowly over time without your noticing it.
Balance isn't just one skill. You need to learn the following to get good balance.
*** Stability
*** Narrow base
*** Fast reaction
This Saturday at our tai chi class at 10am we will do some simple drills we all can do to maintain our balance. See you in class.

Why tai chi?

You can start at any time and reap a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional health benefits, including improved balance, strength, flexibility, stress reduction, and chronic disease management.
