The second commandment: Theme. Before a finish is chosen or a supplier is called, the space gets a name for what it is about. The decision that makes all other decisions possible.

This Lisbon apartment kept its plasterwork, its high ceilings, its century of restraint. Decades of objects moved in without asking permission to match. Gold keeps showing up anyway, in a mirror frame, a chandelier, never announced, always there.
