Settling Into the Path
A reflective sharing, just after the full moon
Hi everyone,
August was a month of change for me.
A new home.
A new job.
A new book.
A new chapter.
Now autumn is slowly coming. The mornings feel different, the evenings are getting darker, and the forest is beginning to change.
I love this time of year.
Nature reminds us that everything moves in cycles. There is a time to grow, a time to harvest, and a time to let go.
We are no different.
Since moving to my country home outside Vingåker, I have been finding a new rhythm between my work, my writing, my healing, and my time in nature.
This autumn I will be holding a healing course based on my book, Shamanism and the Power of Nature. We will take the teachings from the book into practice, working with nature, energy, the seven animal teachers and the seven kuyas.
I will also publish my second book, Love Letters to Grandmother Moon. I wrote it a year ago, and now it is time to share it. It is a book about the Moon, our inner cycles, relationships, darkness and light, and the changes we all move through in life.
Grandmother Moon has taught me a lot.
She changes every night, but she is always the Moon.
I think we are like that too.
We change, we grow, we lose things, and we begin again. But somewhere underneath all those changes, there is something within us that remains.
This autumn I will also be doing some podcasts.
I look forward to having conversations about shamanism, healing, nature, the Moon, and what it means to walk a spiritual path in ordinary everyday life.
The books, the course, the podcasts and my healing work may look like different things, but for me they all come from the same place.
Nature.
Healing.
Connection.
And learning to walk our own path.
I continue to offer healing sessions, rune readings, personal weekends in nature, and evenings with Standing Deer. My little cabin in the countryside is also available for anyone who needs some quiet time close to the forest.
As autumn comes, I think about the trees.
They do not struggle to hold on to every leaf.
They let go when the time is right.
There is a teaching in that.
We don't always need to know where the whole path is taking us.
Sometimes it is enough to see the next step.
The Earth beneath our feet.
Grandmother Moon above us.
And the path in front of us.
I hold you all in my heart.
We walk together.

The Twixt and Between Ceremony
In the fall, during the two or three days around the full moon, it can be a beautiful time to do a Twixt and Between ceremony.
Find a quiet place in nature and sit comfortably directly on the ground. Take a moment just to arrive. Feel the earth beneath you and become aware of your breathing.
Look around and find a place where two elements meet. It may be where a root enters the soil, where water moves around a stone, where a raindrop rests upon a leaf, or where a flame touches the wick.
Choose one place and allow your attention to rest there.
Take a slow breath in and bring yourself to your center. With every breath, allow the ordinary world to become quieter. Your work, your responsibilities, your worries, and even your ideas about who you are can rest for a while.
Now become aware of the two elements in front of you. Feel the rock and the water. Feel the root and the earth. Feel the leaf and the raindrop.
Then slowly allow your awareness to move toward the place where they meet.
Do not try to understand it.
Just experience it.
Allow your consciousness to rest in that small place betwixt and between.
At first, you may only remain there for a few seconds. You may notice a change in the atmosphere around you. Perhaps there is warmth, movement, stillness, or simply a feeling you cannot put into words.
Do not judge what comes.
Breathe and listen.
When you feel ready, quietly ask the spirit of this place to come closer. Ask if there is something it wishes to show you.
Then become still.
Maybe you will receive words. Maybe an image. Maybe a feeling. It could simply be silence.
Let whatever comes be enough.
Remain in the Twixt and Between for as long as feels natural. Do not force anything.
When you feel that the ceremony is complete, slowly draw your awareness back into yourself. Take a deep breath. Feel your body. Feel your hands and your feet. Feel the earth beneath you.
Come back fully to this place and this moment.
Before you leave, offer your gratitude. I often leave a little to***co or a few coffee beans as an offering.
Thank the spirit of the place.
Thank the earth.
And do not forget to thank the two elements that allowed you to sit for a moment at the threshold between them.
You do not need to understand what happened.
The Twixt and Between is not something we understand only with the mind.
It is something we learn to experience.
It is the place where one thing becomes another.
The place between here and there.
Between what we know and what we do not yet know.
Sometimes, when we become quiet enough, we discover that we are there too.
Just sitting for a moment between worlds.

Full Moon
Moon in Pisces
The Moon in Pisces brings a dreamy and compassionate energy, with a focus on spirituality, healing, and imagination.
Energy of the Day
The Moon is completely lit, and its energy peaks. Emotions and clarity are both heightened. This is a powerful time to see things as they truly are and release what no longer serves you. The energy is intense and outward. You can channel it with awareness.
FULL MOON RUNE READING
ᚱ Raidho • ᚦ Thurisaz • ᛋ Sowilo
Under the light of Grandmother Moon, three runes come together with a clear message.
Raidho is the journey and the path under our feet. Something is moving, and this Full Moon whispers to us. She says look closely at where our life is taking us.
Then comes Thurisaz, standing at the threshold. It tells us not to rush forward. There are moments when we need to stop, listen, and release thing not needed before taking the next step. Strength is not always about pushing ahead. Sometimes strength is knowing when to be still.
And finally comes Sowilo, the Sunlight after uncertainty and clarity after stillness. It reminds us that the light we are searching for also lives within us.
Together, the runes are talking about movement, stillness, and light. They speak of the space between where we have been and where we are going. Yes, the twixt and between that I have been writing about.
Walk your path.
Stop when the threshold asks you to listen.
Then step forward when the way becomes clear.
Grandmother Moon does not tell us where to go. She just gives us enough light to see the next step.

The Twixt and Between
When I was a young boy growing up in Vermont, there was an expression I heard from time to time.
It came from the people who lived around the little town of Poultney. Many of the men worked in the stone quarries nearby. Some of those families had come from Wales, and they spoke with a dialect that sounded different from the old Yankee voices I was used to hearing.
There was one expression that stayed with me.
The twixt and between. Those words stuck.
The twixt and between is the space between two things. Between two moments. Between two worlds.
As I grew older, the words began to carry a deeper meaning for me. I think of the twixt and between as that moment of stillness just before something changes. The old has not completely disappeared, but the new has not quite arrived.
There is something sacred in that place.
It is four o'clock in the morning, when most people are sleeping and the world is strangely quiet. Night is still with us, but somewhere beyond the horizon morning is already coming. It is a time when the veil can feel thin and the travled worlds seem very close together.
It is the fog on a cold morning, resting over the fields and forests. For a little while, familiar places disappear. Trees become shadows. The path ahead becomes uncertain. Then the warm sun rises, the wind begins to move, and slowly the fog is carried away.
But for those few moments, we stand in another world.
Working often in these places that are part of the twixt and between.I have come to love these places. The moment between darkness and light.
Between sleeping and waking. Between one breath and the next. Between what we were and what we are becomming.
Special old words stayed with me all these years.
A little expression I first heard as a boy among the quarry people of Vermont became, many years later, a way of understanding somthing very shamanic.
There is magic in the places between.
We only have to become still enough to notice it.

A day in nature
Yesterday I spent the day in the forest, walking with good friends and stopping at power places that have become important to me.
Much of the day was spent talking about my book, Shamanism and the Power of Nature, and about our relationship with the land around us.
Where I live, I do not have to walk far before I find a place that feels different. A stone, an old tree, a spring, a clearing in the forest. Places where something makes me slow down and listen. I believe this is true almost everywhere in the world.
We do not always need to travel to distant mountains or ancient sacred sites to find places of power. Sometimes we only need to walk into the nature that surrounds us with an open heart and without hurrying.
The land begins to show us where to stop.
I think that is how a power place begins. Not because someone tells us that it is sacred, but because something within us becomes still enough to recognize that it already is.
