Worker bees, especially foragers, often take brief rest periods between bouts of activity. These aren’t long “deep sleep” phases like at night, but more like quick recovery pauses.

Where they rest: They might cling to a flower, a leaf, or even hang upside down from a stem for a few minutes to recharge before resuming foraging.

Why they nap: Flying and collecting nectar is very energy-intensive. Bumblebees’ wing muscles generate heat and burn a lot of sugar, so short naps help them recover and regulate energy use.

Sleep behavior: During these naps, bees become still, their antennae droop, and they stop responding to mild disturbances — clear signs of rest.
