Dr Marie Li remembers too. Years before she was treating pigmentation, she was living with it, convinced a few laser sessions would clear it up.
They didn’t. What looked like freckles turned out to be melasma: stubborn, recurring, and far more complex than she expected. That confusion sent her down a different path, from the patient chair into the science of pigmentation itself, and eventually, into the doctor‘s chair.

Why does pigmentation feel so personal to treat? For Dr Marie Li Dr Marie Li , aesthetic doctor at EHA Clinic Orchard, it started long before she was in medical aesthetics. She has navigated melasma herself, and that lived experience now shapes how she approaches every patient with pigmentation concerns.
Dr Marie holds an MBBS from the University of Western Australia and is registered with the Singapore Medical Council. Her focus is pigmentation and skin quality, especially for patients in their 20s and 30s who are starting to think about their skin early.

At a recent hands-on training workshop, Dr Elias Tam walked fellow doctors through how he assesses each patient’s anatomy before customising a PLLA collagen stimulator treatment plan, and demonstrated his injection technique directly.
A PLLA collagen stimulator works by triggering the body‘s own collagen production over time, gradually restoring structural support to the skin. Getting the placement right requires a detailed understanding of facial anatomy and how laxity actually develops, not just where it appears on the surface.

A new injectable now exists specifically for pigmentation. Not another laser. Not another cream.
It contains succinic acid, approved for injectable use for the first time, and works through three separate mechanisms in one treatment.
Three mechanisms, one injection:
Antioxidant. Converts darker pigment (eumelanin) into a lighter form (pheomelanin).
Tyrosinase inhibition. The enzyme that produces melanin becomes less effective once succinic acid binds to its active site.
Macrophage redirection. Shifts the body’s repair response away from scarring. Particularly relevant for post-acne marks, not just melasma.

A concern on the skin doesn’t always start on the skin. Sagging can trace back to the retaining ligaments beneath the surface, not just looser skin. Dullness or slow healing can trace back to hormones or circulation, not just the surface layer.
