FOTHO END-OF-YEAR STATEMENT
As we come to the end of this year, Focus on the Habits Organization (FOTHO) would like to take this moment to reflect with honesty, humility, and hope.
This year largely marked the foundational stage of our organization. Our main achievement was the successful legal registration of FOTHO, an important and necessary step that gives the organization legitimacy, structure, and a solid platform for future work. While this milestone is significant, we also acknowledge that FOTHO was not as active or visible in community programmes and outreach activities as initially intended.
This was not due to a lack of commitment or vision, but rather the realities that come with establishing a new organization — including administrative processes, capacity building, and laying internal systems that will allow us to operate effectively and sustainably.
We acknowledge this openly to our supporters, partners, and the communities we seek to serve, because transparency is one of our core values.
Looking ahead, we are confident and excited about the future. 2026 will be a year of action, visibility, and impact for FOTHO. With registration now complete, the organization is positioned to actively roll out awareness campaigns, support sessions, partnerships, and advocacy initiatives addressing addiction-related challenges across communities.
We commit that in 2026, FOTHO will be more present, more engaged, and more vocal in fulfilling its mission of promoting good habits, fighting addiction, and supporting recovery and rehabilitation.
We thank everyone who has believed in FOTHO from the beginning, and we invite stakeholders, partners, and community members to journey with us as we move from foundation to full operation.
Together, we look forward to a more active, visible, and impactful year ahead. We wish you a blissful Christmas and Happy New Year.

FOCUS ON THE HABITS
Introducing a New NGO
Focus On The Habits might not be introducing an entirely new predicament or proposing unfamiliar solutions, but it surely brings a fresh and much-needed approach to tackling the challenge of addiction in our communities.
This organisation seeks to redefine how society views addiction and recovery, moving away from judgement and shame, and instead promoting compassion, education, and practical support. It must be clearly stated that we are not closing down tarvens and bottle stores neither can we halt the operations of betting companies.
Focus On The Habits focuses primarily on addressing harmful, addictive behaviours—particularly those that have become normalised in everyday life. These include both substance addictions (such as drugs, alcohol, or prescription medication) and behavioural addictions (like gambling, sports betting, po*******hy, or compulsive social media use).Bantfu bagcilateke ngetindlela letinengi letehlukene lesingeke siticedze but we can try and look into those issues. We may not be able to solve everyone’s problems but who knows how many people can unburden themselves from the existence of an organization like FOTHO. Lelidlazana lelitositakala makes this organization very happy. While some people may not immediately consider these behaviours as dangerous, they have the potential to cause immense personal, emotional, social, and even financial harm.
The central aim of FOTHO is to raise awareness about these behaviours and offer real pathways to freedom and recovery. The organisation also provides support for individuals who are genuinely willing to escape the grip of addiction and reclaim their lives.
Addiction is widely recognised as a disease. Like many other diseases, it can be both prevented and treated—though prevention is often simpler and less costly than recovery. Addiction can be defined as the over-dependence on something that begins to interfere with a person’s wellbeing, relationships, or responsibilities. This may involve a chemical substance or an obsessive behaviour that alters the brain’s reward system.
In all honesty, addiction is not only a burden to the addict, but it deeply affects the people around them; especially their families. Parents, for example, often go above and beyond to rescue their children from the destructive paths of drug abuse or compulsive habits. Batali bayasha. It is heartbreaking and traumatic to witness a loved one trapped in an addictive cycle, spiralling further from their potential and peace of mind.
FOTHO exists to provide a safe, non-judgemental environment where individuals can admit they need help and find support without fear of embarrassment. We believe healing begins when a person feels accepted and understood, not when they are labelled or condemned.
This organisation does not seek to expose, embarrass or judge anyone. Instead, we encourage people to voluntarily share their stories—whether victories, losses or lessons learnt along the journey of addiction. Testimonies are welcomed in any form: anonymously for privacy, or openly for those who are ready to inspire others.
FOTHO also does not use threatening language or guilt-driven messaging in its campaigns. Our role is to present the facts clearly and respectfully, giving people the information they need to understand what is at stake. Whether someone is curious, concerned about a loved one, or already struggling, they should feel informed and empowered to make better choices.
Help
Acknowledging the existence of an addiction is not just the first step; it is the biggest and bravest one, ungatiyengi. Many people suffer silently for years, hiding their habits due to fear of being misunderstood or rejected. At FOTHO, we celebrate the courage of those who come forward and seek support.
Those individuals should not be left to walk the journey alone. The organisation must link them with qualified professionals, including therapists, counsellors, and rehabilitation centres that specialise in treating both substance and behavioural addictions. We believe that proper guidance is crucial to recovery, and no one should be made to feel like they must solve everything on their own.
Beyond treatment, FOTHO is committed to promoting prevention, especially among the youth. We aim to engage young people before addictive habits begin to take root. Through educational programmes, peer discussions, and community talks, we help them make informed decisions and understand the real-life consequences of certain actions.
We envision a future where young people can recognise red flags early—before they find themselves caught in the grip of addiction. This involves teaching about self-discipline, emotional management, and the risks of experimenting with harmful substances or behaviours.
This platform(Eswatini Times) is just one of several tools FOTHO will use to spread this life-saving message across the country. Through partnerships with schools, churches, media outlets, and community centres, we aim to make this information accessible to all sectors of society, regardless of background, location, or status.
The Bigger Picture
The work of this organisation will not only benefit individuals but can have ripple effects across the whole society. A nation filled with people who are mentally, emotionally and socially healthy is a stronger, safer, and more productive nation.
When addiction is reduced, crime goes down, families are restored, and workplaces become more stable. Even the economy stands to benefit from a healthier population. We therefore believe that supporting and encouraging this movement is an investment in the country’s future.
Our message is simple: addiction does not define a person. With the right support and determination, freedom is possible, UNGATIYENGI. And it starts with REACHING OUT; whether you are the one struggling, or someone who wants to help another.
