1 Week Rehab: FITBONE vs LON
Two patients. Two different limb lengthening methods. The same important first step: early rehabilitation.
In this video, we follow two patients during their first week of rehabilitation — one undergoing limb lengthening with FITBONE, and the other with the LON (Lengthening Over Nail) method.
During the first week after surgery, postoperative swelling (edema) is common and expected. At this stage, appropriate physiotherapy, gentle prescribed exercises, muscle-pump movements, and proper limb positioning can support circulation and help manage swelling as the body begins to recover.
Early rehabilitation also focuses on maintaining joint mobility, muscle function, flexibility, safe movement, and walking ability, while helping the patient adapt to the limb lengthening process.
Although the surgical methods are different, rehabilitation plays an essential role in both journeys. Each patient’s exercise program and progression are adjusted according to their procedure, clinical condition, and individual response.
Postoperative swelling should always be monitored. Sudden, excessive, increasingly painful, red or hot swelling — particularly when associated with calf pain or shortness of breath — requires medical evaluation.

Can I complete the limb lengthening process without physiotherapy?
This is one of the most important questions patients ask during limb lengthening.
In this video, Specialist Physiotherapist Fatma Çavdarcı explains the role of physiotherapy throughout the process and why rehabilitation is an important part of maintaining mobility, muscle function, flexibility, and walking ability as lengthening progresses.
Every patient’s rehabilitation needs are different, and the program should be adapted according to their individual stage of recovery and clinical progress.

FITBONE or LON — which method would Prof. Dr. Yüksel Yurttaş choose?
There is no single limb lengthening method that is right for every patient.
In this Reel, Prof. Dr. Yüksel Yurttaş compares LON (Lengthening Over Nail) and FITBONE, explaining how each technique works, their main advantages, and the practical differences patients should understand before making a decision.
LON is a well-established and more affordable option, but it involves an external fixator and requires daily pin-site care throughout the lengthening phase.
FITBONE uses a motorized internal nail placed entirely inside the bone, with no external frame or pins. For suitable patients, this can offer greater comfort, easier daily care, and fewer visible scars during the process.
When both methods are medically appropriate, FITBONE is generally Prof. Dr. Yüksel Yurttaş’s preferred option. However, the final decision should always be based on individual evaluation, including bone structure, body weight, planned lengthening, and overall clinical suitability.

LON or FITBONE — what’s the difference?
In this video, Prof. Dr. Yüksel Yurttaş explains how the LON (Lengthening Over Nail) technique and the FITBONE internal lengthening system are used in limb lengthening surgery.
He breaks down how each method works, their main advantages, and the key points patients should understand when comparing the two approaches.
There is no single technique that is best for everyone. The most appropriate method depends on the patient’s individual anatomy, goals, medical evaluation, and treatment plan.

Limb lengthening is not just about the lengthening itself.
Our patient has now completed her first month after surgery and has gained 2.8 cm so far, while continuing the active lengthening phase.
As the body gradually adapts, movement, strength and flexibility are worked on throughout the process. These exercises become part of her daily routine alongside physiotherapy, walking and regular follow-up.
Here’s a look at some of the everyday movement and exercise work she is doing at this stage of treatment.

One month after limb lengthening surgery, our patient has gained 2.8 cm so far and continues the active lengthening phase.
This short clip shows how he is walking and moving during everyday life at this stage. Physiotherapy, mobility exercises and regular follow-up remain an important part of the process as the lengthening continues.
