It was a privilege to speak as a panelist at the Human Resource for Health Conference 2026, contributing to the discussion on โWomen at the Forefront of Health Systems Transformation.โ
As we look to build the health workforce of the future and meet our countryโs growing health needs, conversations on the role of women in leadership are essential. Strong, inclusive leadership will be critical to building resilient health systems and delivering better health outcomes for generations to come.
Under the leadership of Dr. Ellen Mkondya Senkoro, it is encouraging to see this conversation take the stage. My sincere congratulations to Dr. Ellen and the entire organizing team at the The Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation on a successful first day of the conference.
Iโm grateful to have shared the stage with the incredible women, Dr Maryam Amour and Doris Mollel to share our own personal journeys to health leadership.

It was a privilege to moderate MEWATA's satellite session, "Breaking the Silence and Navigating Menopause: Awareness, Preparedness and Support for Female Health Professionals."
My sincere appreciation goes to our distinguished panelistsโDr Anna Graham, Prof. Muzdalifat Abeid, Dr Matilda Ngarina, and Dr Lilian Mnabwiruโfor generously sharing your expertise and insights. Your leadership and commitment to advancing women's health enriched a conversation that is both timely and necessary.
I am equally grateful to my co-moderator and MEWATA President Elect, Dr Maryam Amour, whose thoughtful facilitation helped create an engaging and meaningful dialogue.
Our discussion reaffirmed that menopause is a clinical, educational and workplace issue that deserves greater attention. From strengthening medical education and improving access to evidence-based care, to addressing stigma and fostering supportive workplace environments, it is clear that we all have a role to play in ensuring women are informed, prepared and supported throughout this stage of life.
Thank you to everyone who joined the session and contributed to this important conversation. May this be the beginning of continued dialogue, stronger collaboration, and meaningful action to improve women's health across our communities.

Every stage of a woman's life deserves evidence-based care, informed conversations, and compassionate supportโincluding menopause.
I look forward to co-moderating MEWATA's satellite session on "Breaking the Silence and Navigating Menopause: Awareness, Preparedness and Support for Female Health Professionals."
This discussion brings together distinguished experts to explore the clinical, personal and policy dimensions of menopause, while identifying practical solutions that empower women and strengthen our healthcare systems.
Breaking the silence is the first step toward ensuring no woman navigates this journey alone.

MoU between AAPH and MUHAS was signed earlier today.
The team, led by our CEO, Dr. Mary Mwanyika Sando, attended the opening ceremony of the 14th MUHAS Scientific Conference.
During the session, our CEO and the Vice Chancellor at MUHAS official, Prof. Appolinary Kamuhabwa, publicly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming the longstanding partnership between AAPH and MUHAS; commemorating partnerships that drive innovation. The renewed commitment strengthens our shared efforts to advance research, innovation, and capacity building for improved health outcomes across Tanzania.
The Guest of Honour, Hon. Prof. Adolf Mkenda, Minister of Education, Science and Technology, challenged scientists, health academicians, public health experts, and students to harness science for driving medical innovation and discovery. His remarks were a timely reminder of the value of partnerships that translate research findings into meaningful impact through improved policy and practice.
We look forward to continuing our collaboration with MUHAS and advancing science, innovation, and better health for communities across the continent.
The future of health in Africa depends on how well we invest in the health, well-being, and leadership of our young people today.
That is why I am proud that the Africa Academy for Public Health (AAPH_Africa ) joined partners from across the continent in convening CAH-SSA 2026โa platform dedicated to advancing dialogue, innovation, and action around youth health and development. As we confront growing health challenges, investing in prevention, health interventions, and youth empowerment remains one of the most effective pathways toward healthier populations and more sustainable health systems.
We were honored to officially open the conference with Hon. Dr. Seif Shekalaghe, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, whose remarks reinforced the importance of empowering young people to make informed health decisions and creating the conditions for them to thrive.
I am excited about the ideas, partnerships, and commitments that will emerge from this gathering as we work together to build a healthier future for Africa.
