Breakage can be from a combination of things but here are the most common:

❌ Too much heat + no heat protectant

Ideal heat temperature for styling irons is around 300-350 degrees. Anything higher will severely damage your hair after repeated use. Also, make sure you’re using a heat protectant EVERY TIME. Think of it like sunscreen for your hair, you use sunscreen so you don’t get burnt & heat protectant offers the same protection!

❌ Over processing or over lightening the hair

Bleaching hair is damaging to the hair cuticle. Constantly lightening the same areas or switching repeatedly between dark and light colors in too short of a time frame will lead to damage. This is why we say “it’s a process” going from dark to light especially if your hair was light BEFORE you went dark. Over processing the hair almost always leads to breakage.

❌ Sleeping with your hair wet and/or in a ponytail at night

Hair is in its most fragile state when it’s wet. If you’re going to sleep with wet hair in a ponytail or bun, that hair is being restricted. If you notice a “fuzzy” top layer of hair in the back of your head, this is typically caused by tight ponytails. When the ponytails are tight and used often it begins causing too much stress on the hair, leading it to break off. Try scrunchies or looser up styles if you wear your hair up daily!

Having trouble achieving the style yourself? Here’s some things you may be missing↓

ꕥ Your hair should be roughly 85% dry before you go in with a round brush or thermal blowout brush. Focus on getting the root dry

ꕥ Start with a thermal heat styler that has some hold. My favorite currently is our Bokka Blowdry Boost Volumizing Spray

ꕥ Set your curls with rollers or pins to cool. Letting the curls cool while set will prep your hair for a bouncier, long lasting style
