Be Radiant

The 5% Rule.

I was reminded of a lesson I learned years ago from my friend Lisa Kelley Hair | Professional Education & Products.

No matter what you do in life, about 5% of people will complain about it.
About 5% will compliment it.
And 90% will say… nothing.

This perspective helped me so much in my hair dressing career. I was thinking about it again today as I’ve been stepping out into music, video reels, and uncomfortable places.

I’ve been thinking…

Are you living for the 5%?

Are you making decisions based on the small percentage of people who criticize what you’re doing?

Or are you chasing the 5% who compliment you—and getting discouraged when those compliments don’t come?

Because here’s the thing:

90% of people probably aren’t going to tell you what they think.

They may see what you’re doing.
They may appreciate it.
They may even be impacted by it.

They just might never say a word.

So maybe the better question isn’t, “What do people think?”

Maybe it’s:

Am I doing something that matters?
Am I contributing something good?
Am I fulfilling the purpose, mission, or calling I believe I’m meant to pursue?

Because if the answer is yes…

Keep going.

Don’t let the 5% who criticize you stop you.

And don’t let the 5% who applaud you become the reason you keep going.

Live for the purpose—not the response.

I needed this pep talk to myself today.
I’m so guilty of living for the instant gratification of applause, and when it doesn’t come, I’m tempted to stop working on my goals and mission.
If I get negative feedback I want to give up.. but what about the 90% who say nothing?
What about the dream? The purpose? The mission? The calling?

I think that’s bigger than the opinions, praise, discouragement.

Can you relate?

May God open the eyes of our hearts to see His love and goodness all around.

To notice the little things.
To recognize where He’s moving.
To see what He’s doing in our lives—even when we don’t have the whole picture yet.

May we have eyes to see Him today. 🤍
