The US spends more on healthcare per capita than any country on earth.

And Americans are flying to China to get MRIs because it's cheaper.

Those two facts should not coexist.

An MRI at a public hospital in China costs around $70. At a private international hospital in Shanghai or Beijing, you're looking at $600 to $900. In the United States, the same scan runs $1,200 to $3,000, and that's often AFTER insurance kicks in.

Here's the actual math on the trip.

Round trip flight to China: $700 to $1,200. Five-star hotel in Shanghai: $150 to $250 a night. MRI at an accredited international hospital: $70 to $300. Total all-in cost for the entire trip including flights, hotel, and the scan: still under $2,000 in most scenarios.

The average American with insurance pays more than that out of pocket for the same procedure without leaving their zip code.

And it's not a quality gap anymore. These are JCI-accredited hospitals running the same Siemens and GE equipment used in US facilities. English-speaking doctors. Same-week appointments. No three-month wait. No prior authorization phone calls. No surprise bills six weeks later.

Over 500,000 international patients traveled to China for healthcare in 2025 alone. The number of Americans making that trip is growing fast.

I created my own salon. It was never a dream of mine to have my own place just have my own space. I had a great first boss who told me I determine my value, which was great because I realized when I wasn’t valued I needed to leave. I had a horrible ex and vowed to never put up with that again so it was easy to leave where I was bullied. And now I’m trying my best to be good co-worker. I may own the salon but we work together and I appreciate what he brings to The Hair Show and everyday, even when he calls me when I’d rather text. He texts more often and I pick up the phone sometimes!

It’s times like this I realize I don’t take enough pics with my people. Over the course of time I loose my guests for reasons I never know, they just don’t come back. But today I am taking a moment to say goodbye to one of my people who has left this side life and I wish I had a more current photo of us to share because I’ll never forget the last time I saw her 💜
