When someone says they only want “just layers,” it’s important to understand that layers are a haircut.
Creating layers requires sectioning, elevation, and cutting throughout the hair to remove weight and shape the style. Even if the perimeter length stays the same, the internal structure of the haircut is still being changed.
For curly and textured hair especially, layers affect:
• shape
• volume distribution
• curl pattern
• overall length appearance (because curls shrink when they’re encouraged)
So when you ask for layers, you’re asking for a full haircut service, not a small adjustment.
