ToBo Hair Salon is a Black Owned Hair Salon in Fells Point, located 1 block from where slaves were were held and auctioned off here in Baltimore. There aren’t many days I walk through Fells Point and don’t imagine the chains dragging along the cobblestone back to the slave pens of Pratt & Howard Street where our ancestors were held until being transported to the south. I understand there was a time I wouldn’t be allowed to own a business in this area so I understand the weight and significance we hold to be a Black Owned Business in a neighborhood like Fells Point.

On today, when many are supporting Black Owned Businesses in solidarity (some for the very first time), we welcome you to do so, but not only because we are black owned businesses, but also because we are a Phenomenal businesses.

We choose to be phenomenal because I we are our ancestors’ wildest dreams, I want us to be represented well, and with great pride & we bring value to our neighborhood.

We are a phenomenal team, a professional business and we put a lot of love and care into the treatments we provide.

Today on Juneteenth, we celebrate the last state finding out two years after Emancipation that Black people are actually Free. Just free, still not equal, still segregated, still lynched, still a ways to go.
Today, we are still not paid the same, treated fairly within the justice system, still lynched and still a ways to go.

We matter in Fells, we matter in Baltimore, and we, simply put, matter...
