SHOSHANA'S TIP: If you are considering getting your shaitel dyed, keep in mind that the summer months of June, July, and August are "shaitel oxidizing months"- due to the hot, sunny days. The ideal time of year to dye your wig is in September. This is because the color will have a chance to settle into your wig during the fall and winter months, before being exposed to too much sun.

Clients often ask to have their sheitels blown/styled with the sides "feathered back".

This is a very soft, summery look. In order for the proper look to be achieved, ask your sheitelmacher to cut a bunch of soft layers on both sides of the bang so that the layers will really show (even when your sheitel wasn't just blown that day).

PROBLEM: Recently your wig has been looking knotty, frizzy and really messy as a result of putting your coat on and off in this cold weather.

SHOSHANA'S SOLUTION: Before putting on your coat, take your finger and draw a vertical line down the center of the back of your wig. You will be splitting your sheitel in half, placing the hair on the right half of the wig over your right shoulder, and the hair on the left half of your face over your left shoulder. Then, put on your coat, and keep the sheitel hair tucked neatly under your coat. (Often people have their wigs resting on the collar of their coat, which causes the hair to get knotted and tangled when you take on and off your coat.)

Tuesday Touch Up Tip:

PROBLEM: The bangs on your shaitel keep on "splitting". They don't stay together.

SHOSHANA'S SOLUTION: Buy some inexpensive, strong holding hairspray (I recommend Rave 4x Mega). Put your shaitel on your head, and gently sweep together bangs to the appropriate side, and spray the hairspray for about 3-5 seconds. Then, with your fingers, hold the bangs together for another 20 seconds. This should "glue" the bangs together. If this method is done correctly (and you DO NOT hold the hairspray can too close to your bangs), you should come out with a bang that looks naturally blown together, and it will not look sticky!
