Ive seen ALL of the post about how you guys aren’t using sunscreen because it’s allegedly causing cancer 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️. Guess what? The SUN causes cancer.

Here’s a few facts for you:

How common is melanoma?

In the United States:

* About 1 in 27 men and 1 in 40 women will develop melanoma during their lifetime.
* Approximately 100,000+ new invasive melanoma cases are diagnosed each year.
* Melanoma accounts for only about 1% of skin cancers but causes the majority of skin cancer deaths.

How much does UV exposure matter?

Researchers estimate that:

* Around 80–90% of melanomas are associated with UV exposure.
* Having 5 or more blistering sunburns between ages 15–20 roughly doubles melanoma risk.
* Using a tanning bed before age 35 increases melanoma risk by about 75%.

I’ve spent the week at the beach, being outside 80-90% of my vacation and constantly protected myself (and most importantly my children) from the sun while still enjoying it.

Yes, there are harmful chemicals in SOME sunscreens. Just like there are harmful chemicals that cause cancer in some drinks that a lot of you consume (ahem…alcohol…).

This is one of my sunscreens of choice -Elta MD. I use the tinted for my face, neck, and hands daily, and I use this mist if I’m outside. If I don’t have access to this one, I often grab blue lizard for the kids - another mineral option that will protect them from the sun.
