This new client had her color botched three times before finding me, by two different stylists. No shade to them at all. I had a hard time figuring out exactly what she wanted, too. After being disappointed so many times, she wasn’t even sure what to ask for anymore.
I’ll be honest: if a consultation goes past 15 minutes and I still can’t get a clear picture of what a client wants, that’s usually a red flag for me. Not every client is the right fit, and I’ve learned that the hard way. Just because I have 18 years of experience doesn’t mean I’m the right stylist for every person who walks through my door. Starting out unsure and feeling like we’re not on the same page can make for a stressful appointment for both of us.
So yes, I was nervous! Thankfully, she was completely relaxed, trusted me, and we ended up with a total win. 🥹
A big thank-you to my sister Amy for the referral! It’s funny because I had just prayed and asked God to send a few new faces my way, with bonus points if they became consistent clients. That same day, this sweet girl booked with me, rebooked for the year, and sent me this adorable selfie to say I nailed both her color and her cut. 🥰

I may have missed the reunion, but I get to catch up with so many of my favorite people right here in my salon. For those of you who may not know me, I’m Kendra, the owner of A Blonde’s Best Friend, a private salon suite located inside Plush Salons in Bedford, Texas.
I’ve been a small-business owner for nine years and a hairstylist for 18. I’ve spent those years perfecting my craft and pouring my heart, creativity, time, and extra income into making my salon a fun, relaxing, and welcoming place where every client can feel comfortable and beautiful.
I’m also a single mother, so everything I do is to provide for myself and my girls.
It’s no secret that the economy has been hard lately, especially on small businesses. I’m constantly investing in education, the latest hair trends, new tools, products, and special touches to give my clients the best possible experience. Yet each month, I still find myself wondering whether I’ll have enough appointments to cover my salon rent and all of our bills.
Honestly, I don’t believe my clients have stopped coming because they’re unhappy with my work. I believe many people simply can’t afford the same luxuries they once could, and I completely understand that.
Unfortunately, lowering my prices isn’t something I can realistically do. My prices reflect my 18 years of experience, the quality of products I use, the time and care I give each client, and what it costs to keep a small salon open and running.
I’m not sharing this for sympathy. I’m sharing it because small businesses survive through the support of real people.
So, if you’re fortunate enough to still be able to treat yourself to a luxury hair service, and you’re a friend, family member, acquaintance, or someone who has followed my work, I hope you’ll think of me and A Blonde’s Best Friend.
