As you celebrate the Fourth of July, remember that protecting your skin is just as important as enjoying the festivities. Whether you’re spending the day at the beach, by the pool, at a backyard barbecue, or watching fireworks, practicing good sun safety can help reduce your risk of sunburn, premature skin aging, and skin cancer.
Here are some sun safety tips from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) that will make this Fourth of July the best one yet:
- Apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to all exposed skin at least 15 minutes before going outdoors.
- Reapply sunscreen every two hours, and immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.
- Seek shade whenever possible, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when UV rays are strongest.
- Wear sun-protective clothing, including a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.
- Use lip balm with SPF 30 or higher to help protect your lips from sun damage.
- Remember that water, sand, and pavement can reflect UV rays, increasing your exposure even when you’re under an umbrella.
- Check the UV Index before spending extended time outdoors and take extra precautions when levels are high.
- Stay hydrated throughout the day, especially if you’ll be outside in the heat.
- If you’re using sunscreen from last summer, check the expiration date to ensure it’s still effective.
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July. Have fun celebrating while making sun protection part of your holiday routine. We are always here to help!

Did you wear enough sunscreen this weekend?
Whether you spent the weekend at the pool, hiking, gardening, or just running errands, your skin remembers every bit of sun exposure.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, applying it 15 minutes before heading outdoors, and reapplying every 2 hours, or sooner after swimming or sweating. Sunscreen is an important part of protecting your skin from sunburn, premature aging, and reducing your risk of skin cancer.
If you forgot this weekend, today is a great day to get back into the habit. Your future skin will thank you. We are here to help!

Did you know that melanoma is the most common deadly type of skin cancer? According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), melanoma develops when melanocytes, the cells that give skin its color, begin to grow uncontrollably. While it is less common than some other skin cancers, melanoma is more likely to spread to other parts of the body if not detected and treated early.
The good news is that early detection can make a significant difference. Knowing your skin and paying attention to new, changing, or unusual spots can help you identify potential warning signs sooner. Regular skin self-exams and routine visits with a dermatologist are important steps in protecting your skin health.
Take a moment to learn more about your risk and share this information with friends and family. Education and awareness can save lives. We are here to help.

When it comes to preventing fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and loss of collagen, sunscreen is one of the most effective things you can do for your skin every single day. Dermatologists call sun-related skin aging “photoaging,” and it can happen even on cloudy days or during everyday activities like driving or running errands.
To help protect your skin:
- Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily
- Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors
- Don’t forget your neck, chest, ears, and hands
- Add hats, sunglasses, and shade for extra protection
Healthy, glowing skin starts with consistency, not perfection. Your future skin will thank you.
Derm Health is here to help you with all your skin needs!

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), acne is one of the most common skin conditions, yet it is often surrounded by myths and misinformation.
Acne can develop for many reasons, including excess oil production, clogged pores, inflammation, hormonal changes, and genetics. What acne is not caused by is being “dirty” or having poor hygiene. In fact, harsh scrubbing can often make acne worse, not better.
The good news? Acne is treatable. The AAD notes that treatment options may include over-the-counter products, prescription medications, hormonal therapies, isotretinoin, and dermatologist-guided procedures, depending on the severity and type of acne.
Acne can also impact more than just your skin. Many people experience lowered self-esteem, anxiety, social withdrawal, and emotional distress related to their acne. The mental health effects are real and deserve just as much attention and compassion as the physical symptoms.
This Acne Awareness Month, we want to help break the stigma surrounding acne and encourage those struggling to seek support and treatment.
