Come celebrate the power of volunteer sewists during the early pandemic years.

The Auntie Sewing Squad Resistance Playbook, from director Valerie Soe, comes to CAAMFest with a powerful story of grassroots action sparked during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Supported by CAAM’s Documentary Fund with funding provided by CPB, the film captures how a collective of primarily BIPOC women volunteers transformed sewing into an act of resistance and care.

Led by performance artist Kristina Wong, the documentary follows the Auntie Sewing Squad as they build a nationwide network of over 800 volunteers making masks for historically underserved communities. Through intimate moments and candid conversations, the film reveals how their living rooms became spaces for mutual aid, feminism, anti-racism, and collective solidarity.
