Can we talk about BROOKE?!

For her ✨THE BTC SHOW✨ transformation with Kenra Professional we wanted brightness without creating one solid sheet of blonde — so we used my Triple Baby-Light technique in triangle placements around the head.

Three baby-lights. One foil. Small pockets of natural hair left between each weave.

Those little skips create built-in diffusion, while the triangle placements allow that brightness to move softly throughout the hair. The result? Dimension, depth + soft diffused brightness that looks EXPENSIVE.

For YEARS, I submitted to the HAIR AWARDS hoping that maybe someday I would get to experience what it felt like to simply be nominated.

This year, it finally happened.

And that alone felt like winning.

I genuinely went into this weekend thinking, there is NO WAY I win my first year being nominated. I was just grateful to have my work on that wall, to sit in that room and to be surrounded by so many artists I admire.

And then…they called our names. 😭

The funniest part? I was SO sick yesterday that I almost didn’t even go to the awards. I finally decided I couldn’t miss it, threw myself together in literally 20 minutes, put on my amazing cowboy hat and walked out the door.

Apparently sometimes you just need to show up.

To Baileigh BAILEIGH WISOCKI | HTX Hair — WE FREAKING DID IT. Thank you for submitting, for creating this with me and being the other half of this collaboration. I will never forget running to you when our names were called.

To Mary, Kevin and the entire BTC/OneShot team — thank you for creating a place where hairstylists from every corner of this industry can dream this big. Being nominated meant more to me than you will ever know. Winning? I don’t even have the words yet.

Years of submitting.
Years of wondering if my work was good enough.

And somehow… ONESHOT WINNER.

There’s what the client sees…
and then there’s the 47 things your stylist is calculating in their head while smiling politely.

We’re thinking about your color history.
Your hair integrity.
What’s actually achievable.
And occasionally… the ends that have already negotiated their departure.

The goal isn’t to tell you no.
The goal is to know enough to tell you WHY.

And sometimes the WHY is a little unhinged.

Here is what I actually think is kinda chic…

✨ Understanding color theory.
✨ Mastering the fundamentals.
✨ Investing in education that changes the way you think—not just what you do.
✨ Staying humble enough to keep learning, no matter how many years you’ve been behind the chair.

The stylists who stand the test of time aren’t the ones chasing every trend.

They’re the ones who understand why something works.

And yes… I’m also going to say the quiet part out loud:

Stop blaming the toner.
Stop blaming the color line.
Stop looking for a magic formula.

Most of the time, the answer happened before the bowl was ever mixed.

Now let’s stir the pot a little…
