Flaunt confidence with our state of the art aesthetic medicine services. Botox, Fillers, Skincare, Facials, Morpheus8
Last week I had the opportunity to visit the AMI Training Center in Atlanta and take their Patient Safety & Advocacy course and I’m incredibly grateful that I did.
What I loved most was that this wasn’t about one filler, one toxin, one technique, or one brand.
It was about complications.
Recognizing them. Running through protocols. Having systems in place. Knowing what to do when something doesn’t go according to plan and making sure your entire practice is actually prepared before an emergency happens.
Some of the most valuable conversations were the real-world, off-label discussions around what we are actually seeing in practice, how different injectors are managing complications, and what systems are working.
And one thing really stood out to me:
Your medical director needs this education too.
As PAs, NPs and RNs, many of us are the ones injecting every single day and may actually have more day-to-day experience managing aesthetic complications. But if a true emergency happens, your medical director also needs to understand the protocols, know the products, know the plan, and be prepared to step in.
Sometimes our medical directors are surgeons. Sometimes they’re practicing in a completely different area of medicine. Sometimes they simply aren’t seeing aesthetic complications with the frequency that we are.
That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be prepared.
So my biggest recommendation after taking this course is this:
Don’t just take it yourself. Bring your medical director. Bring your clinical team.
Patient safety should never depend on one person in the practice knowing what to do.
Have the protocols.
Have the medications.
Have the emergency plan.
And make sure everyone knows how to use them.
This was one of the most valuable trainings I’ve taken and one I would genuinely recommend to every aesthetic practice.
