Hi everyone! We’d like to welcome Dr. Jenna Poell to Treasure Valley Acupuncture, we are so lucky to have her!

Dr. Jenna Poell, LAc., DTCM is a board-certified Doctor of Chinese Medicine and NCCAOM licensed acupuncturist. Additionally, she holds a certification in Integrative Sports Medicine Acupuncture. 

Jenna began her practice of eastern medicine more than seven years ago as a certified practitioner of Seifukujitsu, a Japanese style of healing art. She went on to obtain a formal education from Five Branches University in Santa Cruz, California, earning a Master’s degree and Doctorate of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2019, Jenna had the privilege to study Chinese Medicine in Hangzhou, China, under the guidance of leading experts in the areas of internal medicine, pain management and scalp acupuncture. 

Currently, Jenna’s holistic practice integrates acupuncture and herbal medicine with nutritional and lifestyle advice that is aimed at helping people on their individual journey to health. 

Jenna takes great care in her approach to treating patients by working to understand their medical history, lifestyle and ultimate health goals, so that she can craft a personalized treatment plan for each patient. Jenna specializes in detoxification, chronic illness, migraines, orthopedic injuries and modern-life related metabolic disruptions and imbalances. After her own lifelong battle with chronic illness, Jenna understands the healing process on a much deeper level and is passionate about helping her patients and empowers them with the tools they need along their healing journey.

we love a solid gua sha session 🪨

This week we had a patient come in for severe neck and upper back tension with severe emotional constraint (stress, anxiety, depression).

This is what she looked like after gua sha. It is a combing/scraping technique of the superficial fascia that breaks up adhesions and loosens muscle tension.

The technique itself is diagnostic. Areas that get dark red or purple like in this case indicate areas where there is a lot of stagnant blood and inflammation. This is not just a physical release but a strong emotional release.

Emotions are stored in the body in particular holding patterns. This is a cathartic, strong, detoxifying treatment. It may look extreme, and it is a strong treatment, but with STRONG results.

Patients often report one session of this doing more to release muscle tension than dozens of deep tissue massage (in fact, this technique is not a deep tissue technique but more superficial). It's dozens of deep tissue massages and dozens of therapy sessions rolled into one cathartic release.
