Yesterday marked the 𝑂𝑁𝐸 𝑌𝐸𝐴𝑅 anniversary of opening Keenly Crafted! 🥳 How did one year go by so fast?!?!

I will admit, it was scary, exciting, and very challenging to open a business in 2020, in the midst of a pandemic and an unknown trajectory of the state of economy, health, and political conflict. However, taking a deep breath, and taking the leap has been the most rewarding experience thus far in my career.

I have met incredible people, have the most supportive and badass patients, and have been challenged beyond anything I have experienced thus far. I am so very grateful to all of you! I will say, learning to utilize social media to market and educate for my business has been difficult… but it’s led me to all of you wonderful people so I am 𝑉𝐸𝑅𝑌 grateful for it.

I am looking forward to growing over this next year, bringing in new services, hosting a couple more patient appreciation events, traveling for furthering education, and continuing to network within this wonderful community. 💙

🌺 Tox Upper Face 🌺

How I love a good glow up ❤️ Rarely will I treat one region of the upper face, without addressing the others and I will NEVER treat the forehead alone. Treating Forehead alone will lead to heavy and lowered brows.

The best results, in my opinion, come from aggressively treating the depressing muscle groups (11s and crows feet) and going a little lighter on the forehead. Even when I say going lighter, that can still mean 12-20 units to the Forehead alone.

Full upper face treatment is often around 60 units and above of Tox. Of course, that number can change based on your metabolism, how often you treat, s*x (males usually require higher dosing), and activity.

The best results also come from maintenance, treating 3-4 times per year. Consistency really pays off, just like your consistency with Skincare. Maintain your Tox by using sunscreen daily 😎

The 𝑊𝐸𝐿𝐿 𝑅𝐸𝑆𝑇𝐸𝐷 look and arguably one of the most difficult areas to treat well. This area requires a holistic approach and assessing the surrounding structures that support the tear trough, including the temple, lateral cheek, midface, and lid-cheek junction.

Not everyone is a candidate for facial filler in this area, 𝐶𝑂𝑁𝑆𝑈𝐿𝑇𝐴𝑇𝐼𝑂𝑁 is required prior to this procedure. Most of the time I avoid placing any filler directly into the tear trough itself, but focus on the surrounding structures as noted above. I also think PRP or PRFM is a great option prior to attempting filler in this area, as it helps strengthen the skin, boost collagen, and improve dark circles. I also highly recommend Restorative Eye Complex twice daily to help strengthen the skin, reduce dark circles, and stimulate collagen.

Tear troughs are a process! I always undertreat this area, as we can always add more if needed, a few weeks after first treatment. Caution, patience, and trust are vital when looking to address the tear trough region.

This beautiful lady had blended facial filler carefully placed to the lateral cheek, c-curve, medial cheek, and a very tiny amount into the tear trough itself.

Building lip shape and volume is a process. Getting any kind of facial filler is a process, a marathon, not a sprint. Facial filler takes patience and maintenance. When it comes to correcting more severe volume deficits, it can take several sessions and multiple syringes to achieve your goals in a natural and balanced way.⁣

This lovely lady had her first lip filler session, and our only goal was to work on structure and shape correction. This M shape lip is unique and challenging to treat. The central top lip is full, while the lateral lip can be thin to non existent, and disappear when smiling. It is important to avoid filling the central lip, as this can give a “beak like” appearance. I focused on building height in the lateral portion, then adding a bit of volume. Tox can also be used to help the muscle relax and not pull the upper lip under. ⁣

It is important to not overfill, Lips can only take so much before we risk looking unnatural and have migration issues. This is why it is a process! We have to allow for tissue integration to take place, then we can build further.⁣

The face is not a two dimensional structure, and is constantly changing due to the aging process of bone resorption, fat pad changes and displacement, and skin laxity from loss of collagen and elastin. ⁣⁣

When assessing the face it’s important to change the angle of your view, change your perspective. Looking from the front, the side for profile view, 45°, and from the top help form the vision of what it is, and what can be. Then, it is critical to assess with animation and expression to understand the nuances of the individual’s facial anatomy.⁣⁣

Examining and assessing proportions, facial harmony and balance, and asymmetries PRIOR to any injections is important in the injector-patient relationship, as well as anticipating the perception results. Where are the lights and shadows reflecting now? Where do we want them to be? Are the transition zones soft and blended, or harsh? Do we see convex or concave shapes? Are the zones of the face proportionate? ⁣⁣

It is crucial that the Injector AND the Patient understand and anticipate how injecting one region of the face, will influence another. For example, when we inject Neuromodulator into one muscle group, do we anticipate or expect that there may be recruitment of other muscles that we need to address? ⁣⁣
