Meet Mike Brouse Mike Brouse the Boulder painter behind our current solo exhibit 🎨🫟🖌️

Mike paints in oils, and his work is full of bold color and rich, layered texture. He describes his style as Bold Modern. It’s expressive and rooted in expressionism, and at times it moves into the abstract. Most of his paintings are drawn from the natural world, from mountains and trees to lakes and flowers. He wants them to stir a feeling of wonder in the people who see them.

His path to painting is a story we love. Mike grew up in Central Pennsylvania, learned drafting in high school, and went on to earn a mechanical engineering degree from Penn State. He built a career in engineering and technical education and started painting part-time in 2010. In 2023 he left the corporate world to paint full-time.

He’s entirely self-taught, and you can see both sides of him in his work. The engineer brings careful attention to composition and design. The painter brings a natural feel for color and rhythm. He’s always experimenting with new approaches, so his work keeps evolving.

It feels right to have Mike’s work here. You come to us for a pause, a breath, a moment to feel something. His paintings invite exactly that. Next time you’re in, take a minute to wander and notice which piece stays with you. ✨
