Top natural hairstylist serving the DMV. Helping women get healthy and hydrated hair.

Why does your natural hair start to feel dry, hard to manage, and like nothing is working anymore?

And if we’re being honest… sometimes it’s not even about the products.

It’s life.
Busy schedules. Stress. Not having the time or energy to keep up with your hair the way you want to.

So you do what makes sense in the moment…
you default to braids, buns, or whatever feels easiest.
And over time, your routine starts working against you and you don’t even realize it.

This is exactly what I see with so many of my new clients as a DMV natural hairstylist.

Not bad hair.
Not the wrong intentions.
Just a routine that no longer matches their life.
Part 2, I’ll break down what was actually going on with Alicia’s hair and what we changed to get her back on track.

If this felt a little too familiar… stay tuned 💗

Hair growth isn’t the challenge. Length retention is.

If you’re wondering how to retain length on natural hair, this transformation is for you.

Five months ago, we did a big chop. Today, this is where her hair is.

So many people ask me how to grow their natural hair longer, but the better question is, “How do I keep the length my hair is already growing?”

For this client, the answer wasn’t a new product or a complicated routine. It was consistency.

She came to the salon every seven days for a shampoo, conditioning treatment, and a wash-and-go. That was it.

Because her hair was consistently cleansed, hydrated, and handled with care, there was very little breakage. When it was finally time for a trim, we removed less than a quarter of an inch because there simply wasn’t much damage to cut away.

Her fine, low-porosity curls thrived because we found a routine that worked for her and stayed committed to it.

This is why I always say healthy natural hair isn’t built in one appointment. It’s built through consistent care, patience, and trusting the process.

Your hair is already growing. The goal is to keep the length you’re growing.

If you’re looking for a DMV natural hairstylist who focuses on healthy hair, education, and long-term results, I’d love to help you build a plan that works for your hair.

Have you been focused on growing your hair or retaining the length you already have?

I’ve been waiting to put this one to the test.

People ask me all the time what products I recommend for natural hair, and The Doux has been one of my go-to brands for years. I already loved the new Block Star Mousse on a flexi rod set, but I really wanted to see how it performed on a wash-and-go.

My first impression? Day one is a 10/10.

The definition is beautiful, her hair feels incredibly soft, and the overall finish exceeded my expectations. But if you know anything about natural hair in the DMV, you know the real test is humidity.

I’ll be checking back in over the next few days to see how the hold stands up and whether this earns a permanent spot in my wash-and-go recommendations.

Now I want to hear from you. How would you rate these results from 1-10? And have you tried The Doux Block Star Mousse yet? T H E D O U X

There is something incredibly special about a client trusting you with a big chop, especially when it’s the third time they’ve asked you to do it.

For more than six years, she’s trusted me through every season of her healthy hair journey. We’ve grown her hair long, experimented with color, and now, once again, she chose to go short because that’s where she feels the most confident.

This appointment included a fresh big chop, gray coverage to beautifully blend her silver strands, and a wash-and-go that lets her curls shine.

But what you’ll never fully see on camera is my favorite part of the experience.

The laughter.
The singing.
The conversations.
The moments where life is shared right alongside healthy hair care.

As a **DMV natural hairstylist**, that’s the experience I hope every client leaves with. Beautiful hair is important, but so is feeling seen, cared for, and confident when you walk out the door.

To my sweet client, thank you for trusting me yet again. It is an honor every single time.

What hairstyle makes you feel the most like yourself? Long hair or short hair?

“I thought I needed a protective style.”

I hear that almost every day, especially during the summer.
One of the biggest mindset shifts my client Laura made wasn’t finding a better protective style. It was realizing her hair needed consistent care, not long periods of neglect hidden under a style.

When Laura first came to me, her hair had experienced significant breakage after a silk press and braids. Instead of searching for another quick fix, we focused on the fundamentals: hydration, regular trims, understanding her curl pattern, and building a maintenance routine that fit her life.

Today, she says this is the healthiest—and easiest—her hair has ever been.

That’s what healthy hair should feel like: easy, predictable, and enjoyable to care for.

Protective styles absolutely have their place, but they aren’t a substitute for healthy hair care. The healthiest style is the one that supports your hair’s needs.

If you’ve been wondering what your hair actually needs this summer, maybe the answer isn’t another style. Maybe it’s a better routine.

What has your hair taught you recently? I’d love to hear in the comments.

One of my biggest takeaways from BeautyCon at Essence Festival wasn’t a new product.

It was a question.

Who do we trust for hair advice today?
Walking through the panels and activations, I noticed how many conversations were led by creators and influencers. They absolutely have a place in our industry. They inspire, educate, and introduce people to products and trends every day.

But as someone who spends every week behind the chair working with real clients, real hair, and real challenges, I found myself wishing there were more salon professionals included in those conversations too.

Beauty professionals bring something different. We don’t just see one head of hair—we see hundreds. We troubleshoot when routines don’t work. We see how products perform over weeks and months, not just one wash day. We help clients navigate breakage, scalp concerns, color, thinning, texture changes, and the realities that don’t always make it into a 60-second video.

This isn’t about creators versus professionals.
It’s about making room for both.

The beauty industry is changing, and I think the strongest conversations happen when brands, creators, educators, and salon professionals all have a seat at the table.
So I’m curious...

When you’re looking for hair advice, who do you trust most?
A creator?
A beauty influencer?
Your hairstylist?
Or does each one play a different role?

I’d genuinely love to hear your perspective.
