ANNOUNCEMENT due to the air quality, trail conditions and the hot weather we have decided to cancel our hike tomorrow!
We will resume on 8/22 to Beehive Basin. Make sure to register on GymMaster. We will meet at the gym for this hike at 7:45 to carpool!
Registration is required so we know who will be joining us. We will wait 10 minutes beyond the scheduled time if not all registered participants are there and then we will head out! We are excited to go explore with you!
8/22 Beehive Basin: this hike is near Big Sky, we will meet at the Peak at 7:45am to carpool! As our last hike, this one will be the most strenuous but end at a beautiful mountain lake. Roughly 7 miles in length and a little over 1,500ft in elevation be prepared for some amazing views and the best way to close out the summer!
This week we feature the ever incredible Jill!
Jill started training with Coach Ellie Petrik with the goal of not only increasing her strength base, but also to be able to pace her sister for a portion of the 100 mile endurance trail race in July.
Coach Ellie got specific, creating both a strength and running plan to work around the needs of a full time work schedule, mom of 3 children (one set of very young twins) and the training time demands.
And by gosh did Jill show up for it.
Uodate from Jill’s race:
“Hi! It went a little sideways but it was good overall.
There was a small fire on the trail so they had to reroute the course. It went from a 100-mile loop with 24,000’ vert to a 102-mile out-and-back with 26,000’ miles of vert. It was pretty brutal.
Unfortunately, my section got cut off when they changed the course. I was planning on running the final four miles with her. When they changed it, the shortest official pacing section jumped up to 15 miles. I didn’t feel ready for that so instead, I jogged up the trail a couple miles from the finish line, met up with her and her boyfriend somewhere along the trail in the woods, and then turned around and jogged the final two miles with the two of them. That was the furthest the race coordinator said I could go upstream without being an official pacer. It was still fun and I was really proud of her.
She came in 29th out of 184, 8th for the ladies. 54 people DNFed so I was proud of her for just sticking with it and finishing. It was not an easy course.
She asked if I regretted training now that my section was cut and I said heck no, it was a good excuse to take care of myself because I’ll always work harder for the people I care about than for myself.
So even though it didn’t go as planned, thank you for helping me get ready!”
We are so proud of your follow through and determination Jill!

Coach Ellie's latest newsletter covers a hybrid workout, what it is and why it's actually a great workout for everyone (unless you're training for the Olympics)!
Whether you decide to tackle a hybrid race (Hyrox), spend 30 minutes lifting weights in your garage, or simply go for a brisk walk around your neighborhood after dinner, you are winning. The best workout style isn't the trendiest one on Instagram; it’s the one that you enjoy enough to show up for consistently.
