One of the greatest privileges of being a children’s hairstylist isn’t cutting hair.
It’s getting a front-row seat to childhood.
Every August, I watch families prepare for another first day. Some are walking into Pre-K with backpacks almost as big as they are. Some are bravely stepping into kindergarten. Others are navigating middle school, starting high school, or packing for college.
And somehow, I get to be a tiny part of all of it.
A haircut might seem like such a small thing on the surface, but I’ve learned over the years that preparation has a way of shaping confidence. Taking that extra step—whether it’s buying new shoes, picking out the perfect backpack, or scheduling a haircut—tells a child, “This new season matters. You’re worth preparing for.”
I see it every year.
Kids walk in carrying the weight of uncertainty, boredom, excitement, nerves… sometimes all of it at once. And while a haircut doesn’t change who they are, it can become part of a fresh start. Their posture changes. Their eyes look up. They leave just a little more ready to take on whatever is waiting for them beyond those school doors.
The older I get, the more I realize these appointments were never just appointments.
The haircut every six or eight weeks becomes years.
Years become milestones.
Before I know it, the little one sitting in my chair for their first preschool haircut is telling me about their favorite teacher. Then they’re nervous about middle school. Then they’re asking for a more “grown-up” haircut before high school starts. And one day, they’re telling me where they’re headed for college.
Some of these children have grown up right in front of me.
What an incredible gift that is.
Thank you for trusting me with your babies through every chapter. Thank you for letting me celebrate the first days, the hard days, the exciting days, and all the ordinary ones in between.
I’ll never take for granted that what looks like “just a haircut” is often woven into the story of a child’s life.
Here’s to another school year, another fresh start, and another season of watching these incredible kids grow into exactly who they’re meant to be.

Thank you to all the clients who so graciously and kindly let me reschedule today.
Our family had to say a sudden goodbye to our youngest dog late last night, and it’s been hard on us all.
Until we meet again, my sweet Mo 🤍🐾
Someone is ready for Pre-K! 🍎📚🤍✏️

BACK-TO-SCHOOL haircut season is right around the corner! Can you believe it?!
There’s something so special about that first day of school. New teachers, new classrooms, new adventures… and every child deserves to walk through those doors feeling confident, comfortable, and like the very best version of themselves! That’s where I come in!
As always, I’ll continue creating appointment availability as needed to help accommodate everyone, but if you already know your child will need a haircut before school starts, booking ahead is incredibly helpful!

Always improving. Always learning. Always listening.
One of my biggest goals this year at Ability Cuts is creating even more visual sensory input throughout the space. Every child experiences the world differently, and for many, engaging visual stimulation can help create a sense of calm, spark curiosity, encourage regulation, and provide a positive distraction during moments that might otherwise feel overwhelming.
So… cue the new additions! 💚✨
More sensory toys!
More fidgets!
More cause-and-effect activities!
A colorful bubble sensory tower!
A dancing robot!
Vibrating sensory tools!
Pretend cameras!
Vehicles, buses, construction trucks, and hands-on activities that invite children to explore, play, and engage!
Every single item has been chosen with intention—not because bigger is better, but because a better experience matters.
I’ve never wanted Ability Cuts to become the biggest salon. I’ve always wanted it to become the best experience I can possibly create for the families who trust me with their children.
That means constantly asking myself:
“How can I make this feel even safer? More engaging? More welcoming? More fun?”
Growth doesn’t always mean expanding. Sometimes growth looks like staying intentionally small so you never stop noticing the little things that make the biggest difference.
Quality isn’t built overnight. It’s built one thoughtful improvement at a time. Every toy, every sensory tool, every adjustment to this space is another way of saying to the children who walk through my door:
“I thought about you before you even got here.”
Ability Cuts will always be a work in progress because every child deserves my very best. Thank you for trusting me with your families and allowing me to keep dreaming up new ways to make this space feel safer, more joyful, and more inclusive for every child who walks through my door.
Here’s to never settling, never stopping, and always finding ways to make a good experience even better!
