Black-owned doesn’t mean Black-only.

That distinction matters to me.

I’m proud to be a Black founder, and my experiences are woven into the story of My Emollient. But the identity of the person who founded a beauty brand shouldn’t automatically determine who feels invited to use its products.

My Emollient is for anyone who wants to be more intentional about what they put on their skin.

Anyone who cares about thoughtful formulations.

Anyone who wants to ask better questions about ingredients and build a beauty routine that aligns with their values.

Our Black ownership is something I will always celebrate.

But it is not a boundary around who we serve.

I want My Emollient to exist in both conversations: as a proudly Black-owned beauty company and as a skincare brand helping move beauty toward greater ingredient awareness and intention.

If you’ve ever wondered whether a Black-owned beauty brand was “for you” because you aren’t Black, I’d love to know where do you think that perception comes from?

Read more about this conversation on the My Emollient blog.

Six weeks can go by quickly, but a lot can happen in that time.

I’m genuinely grateful for each of these interns, the creativity they shared and the time we spent learning and building together at My Emollient.

Before we said goodbye, we paused for an appreciation lunch to celebrate their work, their growth and the energy they brought to My Emollient. 💛

They did more than observe. They helped film content, explored ingredient education and learned how we communicate the importance of thoughtful, non-toxic body care.

Mentorship is never one-sided. They brought fresh ideas, creativity and new perspectives to My Emollient.

I’m proud of what we created together and excited to see where their talents take them next. Keep asking questions, taking chances and making room for your ideas.

That soft, velvety finish? It doesn’t happen by accident.

Mango butter is one of the seven thoughtfully selected ingredients behind the smooth, whipped texture My Emollient is known for.

Made from the seed of the mango fruit, mango butter has very little natural scent. It helps soften the skin, maintain moisture, and give our body butter a silky feel without making the finished formula feel overly heavy.

Every ingredient has a purpose, and we believe you deserve to know what is going on your skin.

Have you used skincare made with mango butter before?

Automating repetitive tasks is a game changer when you’re a solopreneur.

Yesterday, I attended ChatGPT for Small Businesses at OpenAI NYC, where I learned practical ways to use AI to save time, streamline everyday processes, and create more room to focus on growing My Emollient.

Some of the tools enhanced systems I was already using, while others were completely new to me. I left with ideas for improving research, content creation, customer communication, organization, and many of the repetitive tasks that come with running a business independently.

For me, AI is not about replacing the personal touch behind My Emollient. It is about working more efficiently so I can dedicate more time to product development, strategy, creativity, and connecting with my customers.

The OpenAI NYC space was beautiful, and it was wonderful learning alongside other Brooklyn small business owners.

Thank you to OpenAI, Carib Biz Network (CBN) Assemblymember Brian Cunningham and District 46, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and LAW Social House I Events for creating such an informative and welcoming experience for Brooklyn business owners.

Walking into the High Tea Business Salon felt like stepping into a secret garden on the water. 🌸☕️
From the beautiful setting to the conversations with women building meaningful businesses, the entire experience was filled with elegance, connection, and intention.
I was proud to bring My Emollient into this space and introduce guests to our clean, small batch body care. Seeing women experience the textures, scents, and story behind the brand is always one of my favorite parts of an event.
A beautiful day celebrating women, leadership, wisdom, and entrepreneurship. Thank you 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐖𝐄 (Women Entrepreneurs) ™ creating such an incredible gathering.

If you want to be outside this summer but hate feeling sticky, greasy, or overwhelmed by strong sprays, let me show you my favorite combo.
This is My Emollient’s Bug Outdoor Butter and Outdoor Body Oil.
The body butter is rich and packed with botanical butters like shea, mango, kokum, and aloe, so it leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized without feeling greasy.
Then I finish with the Outdoor Body Oil for a lightweight layer before heading outside.
I bring both with me for beach days, walks, cookouts, porch nights, and vacations.
It’s DEET-free, plant-powered, and made without synthetic fragrance, petroleum, parabens, phthalates, or mineral oil.
This is my summer outdoor body-care routine.

Honored to have this moment shared live on Irie Jam Radio.
Syntyche Clarke picked up my Lemon & Sage Body Butter at a pop-up, tried it, and then read the ingredient list on air and what stood out was how simple it was.
Clean body care should not come with a mystery ingredient list.
My Emollient is made with simple, nourishing ingredients you can actually read, created for dry, sensitive skin and handmade in Brooklyn.
As heard on Irie Jam Radio.
