Wellness Wednesday, our favorite day!

Is your pillow causing neck pain?

Think about it: you could spend 7–9 hours every night with your head and neck in the same position.

If your pillow is too high, too low, or has lost its support, your neck may not be getting the alignment it needs for a comfortable night’s sleep.

🛏️ Side sleeper? You may need more height to fill the space between your shoulder and head.

😴 Back sleeper? A lower pillow may help keep your neck in a more neutral position.

📏 Too high or too low? Either can leave your neck tilted for hours.

😣 Waking up stiff? Your pillow and sleep position may be worth taking a closer look at.

Your pillow shouldn’t just feel comfortable—it should help keep your head and neck supported.

Good sleep starts with good alignment.

Muscle Monday | Foot Muscle Series — Week 3 of 8

Quadratus Plantae

The Hidden Helper

There are muscles in your feet that most people never think about—but they are working every time you take a step.

This week we’re looking at the Quadratus Plantae, a small, deep muscle located on the bottom of the foot.

Unlike many muscles that directly move a joint, the Quadratus Plantae acts more like a helper. It works with the Flexor Digitorum Longus to help control and improve the action of the tendons that flex the smaller toes.

That may sound like a small job, but coordinated toe movement is important for how your foot interacts with the ground while you walk and move.

The Quadratus Plantae helps:

• Assist with flexion of the smaller toes
• Improve the efficiency of the Flexor Digitorum Longus
• Help control the pull of the long toe-flexor tendons
• Contribute to stability and controlled movement of the foot

It’s a great example of how the smaller muscles of the foot work together as a team.

Your feet are your foundation. Every step, shift in balance, and change of direction depends on a complex combination of muscles, tendons, bones, and connective tissue working together.

And that’s why we’re spending eight weeks looking at these often-overlooked muscles.

Small muscle. Important job. Strong foundation.

Wellness Wednesday, our favorite day!

When was the last time you walked barefoot?

Walking barefoot on safe, natural surfaces like grass or sand can be a great way to reconnect with your environment while encouraging your feet to move the way they were designed to.

Your feet contain 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Wearing shoes all day can sometimes limit how those structures move and sense the ground beneath you.

Benefits of walking barefoot (on safe surfaces):

👣 Helps strengthen the small muscles of the feet
👣 Improves balance and body awareness
👣 Encourages natural foot movement
👣 Stimulates thousands of nerve endings in your feet
👣 Provides a relaxing way to connect with nature

Give it a try:

✔️ Walk barefoot on grass or sand for 5–10 minutes.
✔️ Start slowly if you’re new to it.
✔️ Always check the surface for sharp objects or hazards.
✔️ If you have diabetes, significant loss of sensation in your feet, or another medical condition affecting your feet, talk with your healthcare provider before walking barefoot.

Sometimes the simplest wellness habits are the ones we’ve forgotten.

Take off your shoes, enjoy nature, and let your feet do what they were designed to do.

💪 Muscle Monday – Flexor Digitorum Brevis-Foot Muscle Series

The Muscle That Helps Grip the Ground

**When was the last time you thought about the muscles on the bottom of your feet?

Probably never—but they work every time you stand, walk, run, or climb stairs.

This week we’re highlighting the Flexor Digitorum Brevis (FDB), one of the primary muscles on the sole of the foot. Located just beneath the plantar fascia, this muscle helps flex your four smaller toes while providing important support to the arches of your foot.

Why is it important?

The Flexor Digitorum Brevis helps:
• Flex the four smaller toes
• Support the arches of the foot
• Improve balance and stability
• Absorb impact with every step
• Provide a strong, stable foundation during walking and standing

When this muscle isn’t functioning well…

You may notice:
• Arch pain
• Heel discomfort
• Foot fatigue
• Toe stiffness
• Reduced balance
• Increased strain on the plantar fascia

Because your feet are the foundation of your body, weakness or tightness in these small muscles can affect how you move and may contribute to discomfort in your ankles, knees, hips, and even your lower back.

Keeping your feet healthy isn’t just about treating pain—it’s about improving the way your entire body moves.

Massage therapy, strengthening exercises, stretching, and supportive footwear can all help keep your feet functioning at their best.

Healthy movement begins with a strong foundation.

Wellness Wednesday, our favorite day! 👟

Are your shoes helping your feet… or hurting them?

Most of us spend hours every day in our shoes, yet we rarely stop to think about how they affect our feet—and ultimately our entire body.

The right pair of shoes can support healthy movement, while the wrong pair may contribute to foot pain, poor balance, and discomfort that travels up to your knees, hips, and lower back.

What to look for in a healthy shoe:

👟 A wide toe box that allows your toes to spread naturally
👟 A secure heel that keeps your foot stable
👟 Proper support for your daily activities
👟 A comfortable fit with no pinching or rubbing
👟 Enough flexibility to allow your foot to move naturally

Signs it may be time for new shoes:

✔️ The tread is worn down
✔️ The soles are uneven
✔️ You notice new aches or pains after walking
✔️ Your shoes have lost their cushioning or support
✔️ You’ve been wearing the same pair every day for many months

Remember, your feet are your foundation. Every step begins there.

Choose shoes that work with your feet—not against them—and your entire body will thank you.
