Let me start by saying, learning NEVER stops. I love my work. This was a tough one for me. I was challenged by so many factors…I wanted to give up. I meditated, said a couple prayers, and did two rounds of processing. After two days we got the color we wanted, and I learned some very valuable life and hair lessons. I’m so grateful. 🙏🏼

Did you know that bridal hair and makeup is my favorite part of what I do? To be a part of one of someone’s best memories is such an honor.

“Why does my blonde get dull/brassy?”
By MOB Ambassador @hairbyhanwatt

There’s a multitude of reasons but here’s the most common:

➡️OVER USE OF PURPLE SHAMPOO. You should ideally only need purple shampoo a couple of times in between your appointments and mainly right before you’re getting ready to come in again. Too much can cause a build up in the hair and make the hair look dull.

➡️HARD WATER WITH OR WITHOUT A SOFTENER. Hard water has a ton of minerals in it that even a softener can’t fully filter out. So of course having hard water will cause mineral buildup in the hair. But don’t worry about Malibu treatment will do the trick!

➡️PRODUCT BUILD UP. Yes using the incorrect amount of product or using a product too frequently than directed will cause a build up in the hair and result in dull color and make it harder to lighten back up.

➡️TOO HIGH TEMPERATURE ON YOUR HOT TOOLS. Heat can strip out hair color. So having your hot tools up too high will not only strip the color but also severely damage the hair so it won’t accept color well any longer.

➡️USING HOT TOOLS TOO FREQUENTLY. Kinda piggy backing off the last point. Using hot tools too frequently will strip color. Same as washing your hair too much. Resulting in dull faded color faster.

➡️ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS. Environment plays a big part in this. If you smoke ni****ne can stick to your hair causing it to look brassy/yellow AND make it extremely hard to lighten the hair after. Living next to a factory with all the chemicals in the air can cause buildup or brassy color. But usually a Malibu treatment does the trick!

Lots of new faces so want to reintroduce myself, I am your owner, Amanda Dukeman. For years I have brought joy to those around me with the language I know best, DESSERTS!

I started Amanda's Cookie Jar & More with the encouragement from my friends and family, but that's not where my story started.

I come from a long linage of women, particularly my Mother and Granny, who loved to be in the kitchen whether it was cooking, baking, or canning, we loved it all.! I got my love and passion for baking from both of them. My logo pays homage to them as they have both passed away too soon, Mom's favorite flower is a sunflower and Granny loved hummingbirds. I carry on their memory doing the thing we loved the most as it connects us all across heaven and earth.

I am a full time mother to 4 awesome young men, full time wife to my wonderful husband, Chris, and a full time Probation Officer for Coles County. Thank you for supporting my small business and making this girls dream come true!
