We get asked a lot about minimum thicknesses for no-prep feldspathic veneers. We need around a minimum of 0.3 mm at the gingival third and 0.5 mm through the body and incisal.

Feldspathic is what lets us go that thin. Pressed ceramic restorations need around 0.75 mm. For milled restorations, going thinner than 0.5mm you begin to run into fabrication issues. A 0.2 mm opaque layer blocks the stump, then dentins and enamels layer on top for depth.

Why do we use Amber Mill?

It’s the only lithium disilicate with true opalescence built into the material. Conventional lithium disilicates can gray out over time and often look flat when done monolithically.
Amber stays bright and lifelike, mimicking the way natural teeth interact with.
There are many workflow advantages. With traditional materials you have to commit to a translucency level upfront by selecting the right ingot or block. With Amber we mill the restoration, try it in at the blue state, and adjust opacity based on how it actually looks over the prep.
If something needs to change we can make that call before final firing. No guessing, no keeping dozens of ingots in stock.
This kind of flexibility gives us room to choose the best approach for each case.
