Beautiful color deserves a beautiful shape. ✨

Sometimes your highlights are still bright, your color is still fresh, and your keratin treatment is still doing exactly what it’s supposed to. The only thing standing between “it’s fine” and “I love my hair again” is a fresh haircut.

Healthy ends, a refreshed shape, and effortless styling work together to keep your hair looking its best.

Beautiful hair isn’t just about the color—it’s about maintaining the whole look.

Your sunscreen shouldn’t stop at your skin. ☀️

Your hair needs protection from the sun, too. UV exposure can fade color, dry out your hair, and leave it looking dull. These three favorites help defend against UV damage while keeping your color vibrant and your hair looking healthy all summer.

Ask me which one is the best fit for your hair at your next appointment!

July Newsletter

Happy July! I hope you're enjoying the summer season so far. Chicago is kicking off the month with one of the hottest stretches of the year, and it certainly feels like summer has officially arrived. Between neighborhood festivals, evenings on the patio, concerts, baseball games, and weekend getaways, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the season. I hope you’re finding a little time to slow down and enjoy it all. And while you’re making summer memories, I’ve got a few tips to help keep your hair looking just as good as the rest of the season.

Here's what's in this month's newsletter...
Feature Presentation: 5 things that fade your color in the summer
IYKYK: Products with UV filters to help protect your color
Neighborhood News: Square Roots Festival

If your hair color doesn't seem to last as long during the summer, you're not imagining it. Between sunshine, swimming, and spending more time outdoors, your hair faces a few extra challenges this time of year. The good news? A few simple habits can help keep your color looking fresh and vibrant until your next appointment.

1. Sunshine
Just like UV rays can affect your skin, they can also fade hair color. Whether you're a blonde, brunette, or redhead, spending lots of time in the sun can dull your color and leave hair feeling dry. Wearing a hat or using products with UV protection can make a big difference.

2. Chlorine
Pool water can strip moisture from your hair and speed up color fading. It can also leave blondes looking a little dull- or even slightly green. Wetting your hair with fresh water before swimming and rinsing it immediately afterward can help minimize damage.

3. Salt Water
A day at the beach is good for the soul, but salt water can be drying for your hair. Dry hair reflects less light, making your color appear less vibrant. Following up with a nourishing conditioner or hair mask helps restore softness and shine.

4. Heat Styling
Your hair already deals with heat from the summer sun, so adding high-temperature styling tools every day can make color fade even faster. Whenever possible, lower the heat setting and always use a heat protector before styling.

5. Over washing
Sweaty summer days can make it tempting to shampoo more frequently, but every wash removes a little bit of your color. On days when your hair just needs a quick refresh, try reaching for a dry shampoo instead.

Remember, your hair color is an investment, and a little extra care during the summer goes a long way. Your future self- and your next salon visit- will thank you.

Summer sunshine is great for your mood...but not always for your hair color.

If you've invested in beautiful highlights or fresh color, UV exposure can contribute to fading, dryness, and unwanted brassiness. The good news? A few of my favorite products include built-in UV filters to help keep your color looking fresh between appointments.

Amika Top Gloss Shine Spray- If you love shiny, healthy-looking hair, this is one to keep on hand. This lightweight finishing spray tames frizz, adds brilliant shine, and contains UV filters to help protect your color while you're out enjoying the sunshine.

Amika Flash Shine Mask- Need a quick refresh? In just 60 seconds, this treatment mask smooths the hair, boosts softness and shine, and helps seal the cuticle. The added UV filters and amino acids help keep your color looking vibrant while leaving your hair silky and hydrated.

Moroccanoil Protect & Prevent Spray- This leave-in conditioning spray was made with color-treated hair in mind. It helps defend against UV exposure and environmental stressors that can cause fading and brassiness while adding moisture, shine, and softness. It's an easy step that helps your color stay beautiful longer.

A little extra protection can go a long way during the summer months. If you're not sure which product is the best fit for your hair, just ask me at your next appointment- or shop anytime through my online store. Your hair color will thank you!

Neighborhood News: Square Roots Music Festival

If you don’t know, the Square Roots Festival is a popular three-day summer street fest in Lincoln Square celebrating live music, craft beer, and local food. There is always a diverse music lineup curated by the Old Town School of Folk Music, spanning four stages, including one indoors. It ranges from rock to indie to folk and global sounds. There will be a massive showcase of Chicagoland breweries, including exclusive specialty tappings and collaborations. An expanded kid zone featuring family stages and inflatables will be taking over Leavitt St. Dozens of local Chicago restaurants, global food vendors and unique neighborhood merchants will also be there. Square Roots has always been one of my favorite festivals, so I will be there too. For more details on exact musicians, breweries and food vendors visit the link below. You don’t want to miss this one, so mark your calendars now for the weekend of July 10-12. Be there or be Square ;)

I appreciate you reading the July Newsletter. I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer. I'll meet you back here in August for a very special edition of In The Know, with yours truly.

Sincerely,
Laura Jayne

It's summer in Chicago baby!!! The reason we all stay here the other nine months out of the year, lol. Well, most of us. I personally am so excited for this summer. I have a big birthday in August, I'll be celebrating 5 years of being a business owner, and 20 years as a hairstylist. I plan on living it up and truly letting myself enjoy these moments and all it took to get here.

Lincoln Square's Bake Walk is coming up on Sunday June 7th from 10am - 1pm. It's a great opportunity to enjoy the neighborhood, spend time outdoors, and experience some of the best local flavors the area has to offer. To purchase your tickets or browse the local participating vendors you can visit lincolnsquare.org.

In this month's newsletter, you'll be reading about:
Feature Presentation: summer hair trends I'm loving right now
IYKYK: products to help you fight frizz and humidity this summer
Neighborhood News: concerts in the square

As the weather warms up, many of us are looking for hairstyles that feel effortless, polished and practical for busy summer days. This season is all about embracing natural texture, keeping hair off the neck, and creating styles that look beautiful without requiring a lot of time.

The Wet Look
Slick, high-shine, and gelled-back sections are a major summer staple. It's a bold, "just-stepped-out-of-the-water" look that instantly elevates high ponytails, sleek buns or tucked behind-the-ear styles. The best part? It also helps tame humidity and flyaways on hot summer days.

Face-Framing Braids
Tiny, bohemian braids woven through the front and pinned back in a half-up, half-down style are being used as a practical and cute summer accessory. They're an easy way to add interest to your hairstyle while keeping hair away from your face.

Low-Effort Updos
To beat the heat, sleek buns, jewelry-adorned twists and tight, glossy ponytails are having a major moment. These styles keep hair off the neck while still looking polished, making them perfect for everything from casual weekends to summer weddings.

Soft Natural Waves
Relaxed, lived-in waves continue to be one of the most requested summer styles. Whether created from a curling iron or your own natural texture, soft waves add movement, dimension, and an effortless finish that pairs beautifully with summer highlights.

Whether you're headed to work, spending a weekend outdoors, or enjoying a summer getaway, these are a few styles I'm seeing everywhere right now. If you're looking for ways to make your hair more manageable this summer, ask me about color, conditioning, or smoothing treatments during your next appointment. Beautiful summer hair starts with healthy hair. Click the link below to schedule your appointment, June is almost fully booked and July is filling up fast.

Want to protect your hair from the humidity this summer and avoid as much frizz as possible? These are my summer go-to's from Amika for maximum frizz protection. I use all three of these products, starting with frizz-me-not after I've washed my hair, then layering velveteen dream and blow drying, then spraying the shield after my hair is dry, and before running my flat iron through my bangs.

Frizz-me-not: Frizz-me-not is a hydrating anti-frizz leave-in treatment spray. It is a heat activated spray that locks in 3 days of frizz protection for glossy, humidity-proof hair. Frizz-me-not protects your hair from heat up to 450 degrees (which you shouldn't be going above 365 degrees please!) and boosts your hair's hydration by 70%. Spray in clean, damp hair and either blow dry or diffuse for silky, frizz-free hair that lasts.

Velveteen dream: Velveteen dream is a smoothing balm to tame frizzy hair. It helps lock in smoothness and protect your hair against the humidity. Velveteen dream also has heat protection up to 450 degrees and UV filters that protect your hair from the sun. Apply to damp hair and heat style or apply a smaller amount to dry hair to smooth away frizz and flyaways.

The shield: The shield anti-humidity spray is a lightweight, invisible heat protecting and style extending spray that is clinically proven to protect hair against frizz and humidity for 24 hours. It also protects the hair from heat up to 450 degrees and has UV filters that prevent damage caused by sun exposure. The shield can be sprayed on damp or dry hair before styling and can also be used on previously styled hair to protect longevity.

If you're needing a little extra help (or a lot) with frizz control this summer I highly recommend picking up one or more of these Amika products, you won't regret it! Click below to shop online and ship your products right to your house or you can pick them up in the salon at your convenience. Either way, you're earning points as my thank you for shopping with me. I want you to love your hair this summer!

Neighborhood News: Summer concerts in the square

The Summer Concert Series begins on June 11th and goes through August 13th. You will be able to experience live music in the square every Thursday evening from 6pm - 8:30pm. Swing by Giddings Plaza to enjoy hearing local musicians for FREE! Adults can purchase beer and wine from our local vendor, Ricochet's Tavern, and you can treat the kiddos to vegan sundaes, shakes or cones from Vaca's Creamery. Whether you want to unwind on a patio after a long day of work or you're ready to dance the night away in the plaza, summer nights in Lincoln Square are hard to beat, especially with live music.

Thank you for reading the June Newsletter. I truly appreciate all of you who take the time to read through everything, and I try to make it worth your while. I'm always open to suggestions if anything comes to mind. Have a great start to your summer and I'll catch you back here in July.

Sincerely,
Laura Jayne

Soft dimension, brighter face framing, and a fresh seasonal refresh ✨

I used all the new techniques I learned in my Wella class last month to create this look. New foil pattern, new Wella Blondor cream toners, and the bixie haircut. I’m obsessed and she was too. 🤍

Current techniques. Timeless hair.

Before & After Keratin pics of my own hair ✨

I usually get the Keratin Express treatment every 6-8 weeks for my hair. I love how it smooths my curls into soft waves and how much easier it is to blow dry.

Last summer I felt that it was extra hot and humid in Chicago, and my hair felt it too. My keratin was struggling to perform at its best and I was wearing my hair up everyday.

This year I decided to get ahead of it and get the NKST, Natural Keratin Smoothing Treatment, also referred to as “the full”. The NKST will last up to 12 weeks and provide maximum smoothing and humidity resistance.

I haven’t had this treatment done on my hair in years, so I am very excited to see the results and how summer goes for my hair this year. I will post more pictures once I have washed and blown dried it myself. For now, this treatment does need to stay in the hair undisturbed for 72 hours.

Thanks to Nikki at Matisse: A Hair + Spa Studio for doing this service for me. She always rocks out my keratin. I’ll see you back in 3 days with true results!

Smoother, shinier, more manageable hair ✨

This guest’s hair looks softer, healthier, and so much more polished after a keratin treatment. One of my favorite things about keratin is that it helps reduce frizz and styling time while still keeping movement and softness in the hair.

Perfect for anyone who wants hair that feels more effortless day to day — especially as we head into humid Chicago weather.

Everyday pretty hair. 🤍
