Supporting survivors starts with how we respond. πŸ’œ

You don’t have to be a professional advocate to make a difference when someone shares that they are experiencing domestic violence.

Listen without judgment. Believe them. Respect their decisions. Avoid asking why they stayed or telling them what they β€œshould” do. Offer to help them connect with professional resources when they are ready.

Sometimes one of the most meaningful things we can say is simply: β€œI believe you. How can I support you?”

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we can all help create a community where survivors feel heard, respected, and supported.

Did you know there are Family Resource Networks serving communities across West Virginia?

If you’re looking for resources in your community, or helping someone find services, WVFRN.org is a great place to start!

Through the West Virginia Family Resource Networks website, you can learn more about FRNs across the state, find contact information for your local network, and access county resource guides that can help connect individuals and families with available services.

Resource guides can be especially helpful when looking for information about food assistance, housing, healthcare, behavioral health, family services, transportation, recovery supports, and other community needs.

πŸ”Ž Visit WVFRN.org and explore the resources available in your county.

Not in Harrison County? That’s okay! Family Resource Networks are located throughout West Virginia, so share this resource with friends, family, clients, and community members across the state.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. πŸ’œ

Domestic violence can affect individuals and families in every community. This month is an opportunity to raise awareness, support survivors, and remind our neighbors that help is available.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, you do not have to navigate the situation alone. Local and statewide organizations are available to provide confidential support, advocacy, safety planning, and connections to resources.

Throughout October, we encourage our community to help raise awareness, learn more about available resources, and stand in support of survivors. πŸ’œ

A little Friday reminder: πŸ’™

You don't have to solve everything today.

You don't have to have all the answers.

And you don't have to do everything by yourself.

Reach out. Ask questions. Accept help. Offer help when you can. And remember that taking care of your community also means taking care of yourself.

Wishing everyone in Harrison County a safe and peaceful weekend!

We're glad you're here. ❀️
