THE PLANTS WE FOLLOW

Rubia cordifolia (Manjistha)
A plant we use.

Where She Grows
Manjistha grows across India and into the Himalayan regions of Nepal and Tibet. She is a climbing plant, winding through other vegetation, with deep red roots beneath the soil.

What She Offers
In Ayurveda, Manjistha is traditionally prepared for excess heat, inflammation and uneven color.

How We Prepare Her
It is her red root that we use, slowly infused into our Sattva Oil of Autumn alongside Licorice Root, and finely powdered in our Ravi Press™.

Why We Use Her
Newer research suggests Manjistha’s relationship with pigmentation may be more nuanced than simply “brightening” as we see in modern day marketing. Researchers are finding new connections between her compounds, inflammation and the ways skin regulates pigment.

My own skin over time and I will continue to use and follow her too.

Headed to Missouri, where an old automotive shop is being made new as a holistic health + apothecary, opening at the end of October.

I’m so happy for her and that Sattva will have a presence there!
