UPDATE: The Northbound I-80/35 on-ramp at University Avenue and the Northbound I-80/35 off-ramp at Hickman Road are now open.

🚧 ROAD CONSTRUCTION CLOSURE 🚧

NW 114th Street will be closed to through traffic starting Monday, March 31, 2025. The full roadway closure will occur between the bridge at Walnut Creek and Dent Eliminators. Businesses along the project area will remain open. Please follow temporary traffic control and signage to access specific properties along the project area.

During the final stage of the project (Stage 3), access to Dent Eliminators, Stew Hansen Collision, Stew Hansen Hyundai, and Smart Honda will be available from Hickman Road heading south on NW 111th Street. Access to Clive City Hall will remain available from University Avenue by heading north on NW 114th Street.

Welcome, Ellen!! We are loving having you at SHADE and can’t wait to send all our clients to you for alllll the waxing 😎

Allow me to introduce myself! Some of you already know me and know me pretty well, but it’s always fun to have a refresher. My name is Ellen Burk. I grew up in a fairly small town in southeast Iowa called Mediapolis, outside of Burlington. I have been in the Des Moines area for just about three years now. I moved up here for school and never looked back. In November of 2019 I joined the esthetics program and the Aveda Institute in West Des Moines. I then was the first in my class to clock out and graduate 6 months later. When I was done with school it took me a month or two to figure out what I wanted to do. That is when a waxing position fell in my lap. I knew that it was meant to be and it has become my passion. Fast forward a couple months and I fell in love, this time with a boy. Those of you who know me know our story (come see me to hear). Ahora vivimos juntos con nuestros dos gatos, yo aprendí español, él está aprendiendo inglés (es difícil) y es mi mayor partidario y admirador. He and my mom are the ones who are always pushing me harder because they believe in me so much. It was through the support of Franklin, my mom, and my clients that all of this is possible. I would also like to give an extra special thank you to for being so supportive, so knowledgeable, so helpful. You gave me the extra push I needed. Saturday was my last day at the company I was with. They have been supportive of me and that’s very much appreciated. That’s enough about me, I would love to hear your story. Come tell me all about yourself at your next appointment.
