AKN or Acne Keloidalis Nuchae, is a chronic inflammatory condition that can cause painful bumps, ingrown hairs, follicular plugging, and scarring if left untreated.
Here’s a quick preview of this client’s treatment:
🩺 Step 1: Dr. Washington evaluated the client and developed the treatment plan.
🧴 Step 2: The affected area was cleansed with a salicylic acid-based cleanser to remove debris and help reduce excess oil and follicular buildup.
🩹 Step 3: I carefully extracted trapped hairs from the inflamed follicles.
✨ Step 4: The area was cleansed again, followed by the application of a topical treatment.
🏡 Home Care:
• Azelaic Acid was prescribed to help reduce follicular plugging and inflammation.
• Hydrocortisone was recommended to help calm the skin and support healing.
• A salicylic acid shampoo was recommended to help minimize buildup and support a healthier scalp environment between treatments.
📅 Follow-up: The client will return in 4 weeks for reevaluation and continued treatment.
Every treatment plan is customized based on the client’s presentation and medical evaluation. This is just a glimpse into one of the ways AKN can be managed under medical supervision.
