5 YEARS UNDER THE SUN ☀️
Ya know, back in the day, when someone asked, “So, where do you see yourself in 5 years?” You just had a vague idea with zero details. That was me. When starting Soft Skull I had one foot in music and the other in hair. No real end goal in either, but life has a way of sorting things out and forcing your hand. Maybe I’ll tell that full story one day.
Early on, I thought I might lose the business. I Couldn’t eat from stress or sleep from anxiety. I felt like an imposter learning how to run a business that I didn’t know would exist or not. What got me through were three things:
ACTION. Break it down and start small. Get a win and keep pushing. File the LLC, open the account, find the space, apply for the loans, etc. Inaction compounds anxiety. Consistent effort destroys the inner doomer.
TIME. I made tons of mistakes in people, money, direction, you name it. Mistakes became lessons but the learning takes time. Time and action make a dangerous combo.
PEOPLE. I saved the best for last. Without good people, you’re done. My sister Sarah worked here as an esthetician before she had kids. I still miss her feminine energy. Payne White is the man: consistent, dependable, hard working, loyal, and ambitious. He showed me how to wash hair properly and I haven’t been the same since. Excited to watch him boom in our upcoming expansion.
But what I’m most proud of is that every person who walks through the doors leaves feeling like a better version of themselves. It’s more than hair. It’s that rare third place where you feel welcome and can be yourself fully and genuinely. We’re bringing that energy back strong for the brahs through community events, optimizing lifestyle design, and adding value to everyone and everything we interact with. Building an elite community is the mission. Always forward.
