Most amenity budgets contain one line item: unit price.
The other four don't arrive as an invoice from your amenity supplier, which is why they get missed. Housekeeping hours per turnover, the checks, the restocking, the cart resupply, the counting. Waste hauling volume. Product discarded half-used because it can't be reissued to the next guest. And the fixtures, which belong on a capital line rather than an operating one.
The unit price is the number everyone negotiates. It's also the smallest on the list, and the only one that doesn't move when the format does.
One exercise before the 2027 budget locks: sit down with your executive housekeeper and put a number on the labor line. Most properties have never separated it out, and it tends to be larger than expected.
Full breakdown is in our buyer's guide.

A question worth settling this month, while budgets are still open:
What does your amenity program actually cost per occupied room?
Not per unit. Per occupied room, with the housekeeping labor counted in. The checks, the restocking, the half-used bottles that can't be reissued, the inventory counts.
Most properties have never pulled those apart. The invoice number is easy to find; the real one takes a conversation with your executive housekeeper and about ten minutes of arithmetic.
Do it before the budget locks. Whatever you conclude, you'll be deciding with a real figure instead of a purchase order.

Q3 closes today.
We relaunched the site in August, rebuilt around the questions purchasing teams actually ask us rather than around our own catalog. Out of it came two things: a savings calculator that runs your own numbers, and a buyer's guide covering configurations, finishes, installation, and five questions worth asking any amenity supplier, us included.
Neither requires talking to anyone. That was deliberate.
The thread through the whole quarter turned out to be labor. Not unit price, not design — the time an amenity program takes to manage, which disappears into housekeeping hours and never gets attributed back to what's causing it.
Q4 is budget season. Same argument, and more ways to check it against your own property instead of taking our word for it.
Thanks to everyone who read, replied and pushed back this quarter.
Two things we don't make you do to get a price:
Sit through a discovery call.
Guess from a catalog.
Tell us your room count and configuration and you'll have a number for your property this week.

Today is Dolly Parton Day! 9/25, for obvious reasons.
We're resharing this reel from Meg (Adventures of Meg & Greg) visiting HeartSong because it's the closest we've been to something she built. Dollywood employs thousands of people in the Smokies, and everyone who has worked in hospitality there will tell you the standard was set from the top.
We've made a donation to the Imagination Library today. If you're looking for a way to mark it, that's a good one. She gave away more than 250 million books.
Rest easy, Dolly.

Big supplier or the right supplier?
Not always the same thing. Four questions worth asking before price comes up:
Who actually answers when something goes wrong?
Is amenities their whole job, or one line among hundreds?
Can they tell you what restocking looks like, per room?
How fast can they give you a real number for your property?
The answers tell you more than a catalog will.

A turnover is dozens of small tasks, and every one of them happens before anyone checks in.
To every housekeeping team working through this week, thank you.

Happy International Housekeepers Week!
This one belongs to the people who turn a room over in the time it takes most of us to answer a few emails. Who notice the thing nobody reported. Who get a floor ready for check-in when the bus arrives an hour early and half the rooms are still occupied.
It is skilled work, done fast, to a standard that only gets noticed when it slips. Every property that runs well runs on it.
To every housekeeper, room attendant, houseperson, supervisor and executive housekeeper out there, Congratulations, and thank you.
Enjoy your week!
