Why NO CARBON in shower filters? Activated carbon is generally ineffective in shower filters because it requires slow, cold-water contact to work, whereas showers use high-temperature, high-pressure flow. Hot water can cause carbon to release trapped contaminants (thermal desorption), while high flow rates reduce contact time, and the material can quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria.
