This is a great distinction. May your Thanksgiving week be filled with good food, friends, family and if anything stress not overwhelm.

It’s been years since I’ve celebrated Mardi Gras in Louisiana but I always make something to remind me of home. One of my oldest recipes from a decades old Real Simple magazine, this shrimp, greens & white beans is always a favorite. Happy Mardi Gras! 💜💚💛

Tell me you’re an Enneagram 1 without telling me you’re an Enneagram 1.

What does “comfort food” look like to you? As parents, we can shape what our families find comforting. And especially the first week of school, it’s so vital to get all the phytonutrients (AKA eating the 🌈)for those immune systems. On the menu this week:
➡️ spaghetti with grass-fed beef, sauce & rainbow cauliflower (not pictured but always a crowd pleaser👍🏼)
➡️ Pork fried rice with allllll the colors of vegetables & pasture-raised eggs
➡️Lentil nachos over chips

We will splurge on 🍕 tonight because
✏️I follow the approach to the 1st Friday of the 1st week of school 📺 🍕 🛀
&
✏️ balance ☺️

Did you know 1 serving, a few tablespoons, of h**p seeds contains 10 grams of protein, 12 grams of healthy Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, & loads of B vitamins & essential minerals like zinc, magnesium & manganese? It’s my favorite way to boost any meal, especially a weekend “fancy” breakfast!
🔸.signature_ Organic h**p hearts are always in a jar in my fridge ready to be sprinkled in or on anything!

I loved today’s Daily Calm “No problem.” As in, it’s no problem if thoughts disrupt you during meditation. The goal of meditation isn’t to control the mind. It’s to release its grip over us, and when thoughts come in as they invariably will, recognize and release.

One of today’s thoughts was brought by Mardi Gras, lest my Louisiana friends and family fear I’ve lost my history: “Zulu is going on right now. Coconuts are flying.” Yep, got to let that one go too, with that “soft smile” and happy memories.

Many clients have told me they just can’t meditate, it’s not their thing. I think what they mostly mean is they can’t meditate the way they think they *should* be meditating. If I had a penny for every thought that hijacked my meditation time, I’d be rich. But because I know the science and I know how I feel after sustaining a daily practice, even with the thoughts of coconuts flying, I keep at it!

Prepping for our annual ❤️-shaped pizza bar, and found this double mushroom. I actually LOL'ed as I showed my 15 yo, exclaiming "look at this fun guy! Get it, fun-gi?!" He had to stifle hysterical laughter I'm sure since he was up early doing laundry. Teens at 8AM are a tough crowd. 😂

While I crack myself up over my pizza toppings, I hope you all are having a fabulous Valentine's Day with the ones you love, and especially with the FOOD you love. Be sure it loves you back!

And yes, we do love roasted broccoli on our pizza!

Super Bowl Eats! Tim’s baked wings with honey dijon, and delish dairy free onion dip & skillet queso. Even the dairy eaters agreed- Yum yum!!

It is possible to eat healthy while traveling!
Even at the stadium I found this organic chicken wrap & turned it into a salad (not celiac-safe), paired with an apple I swiped from the hotel ✅
While the hubs worked I found a sweet creperie that made gluten free crepes & served greens with breakfast (my favorite breakfast hack) ✅✅
Added some raw 🦪 & a GF coffee cake just for fun 😉 ✅✅✅

Savoring this beautiful day in north Texas while so many mourn in south Texas. I’ve read the stories of those involved. So much life & joy taken so early. I also read that the shooter was made fun of as a child due to a stutter and that his mom struggled with addiction. Trauma runs so deep and for the survivors can be very triggering in times like these. If you have been triggered I encourage you to reach out for help. Pastoral support, counselors & social workers, treasured friends and family. Depending on your stance, you may not feel this at all and go directly to action/ doing. I’m so glad there are groups where we can connect and advocate if that’s our slant.

As an Enneagram 1, I move to 4 in stress. Which means I can be very down and very withdrawn. But it also means I am comfortable in grief. I can be still and with others in grief. I am with you all tonight.

Although I love my egg plates, honestly most weekday breakfasts look like this 🥛🥣. If you can do oats, one of my my faves is Superfood oatmeal. Add almond butter, non-dairy yogurt- love or .cocoyo - more seeds & fruit 🍓🫐🍒 and you’ve got all you need! If grain free, they’ve got tons of grain free granola options. 🙌🏼

A smoothie that keeps you satisfied for hours: Base of non-dairy milk and collagen protein, then add greens, berries, seeds- h**p or flax are great, nut butter & non-dairy yogurt or avocado 🥑 to make it super creamy. Whatever you have on hand, it’s a kitchen sink smoothie!

Enneagram1: Wouldn’t it be better if you made your own (nut milk, yogurt) and ground your flaxseeds fresh?
Wing 9: 😐
Security 7: Yes! But It’s all good!

Enneagram 1: Are those photos the best you got? You should take a food photography class.
Wing 9: 🙄
Security 7: Food photography, that’d be great! Fun! Sign me up!
Wing 9: 🤫

Enneagram1: faves? Deets? Do people even say that anymore?
Wing 9: Stop.
Security 7: 😎
