All these years, I also believed and perpetuated the myth that you should wait to wash your hair to help the oils slow down.

I will now shout it from the roof tops that you have to wash your hair to have healthy scalp and hair.

I’m sure DORIAN WHITE • Trichologist & Haircare Science Instructor isn’t the only one to post about this, but this is the first post I saw. Credit where credit is due, thank you for sharing.

Sometimes I’m doing my hair and I realize someone might like this. QUICK!! Get the equipment!

Step 1; dont brush your hair.
Step 2; high pony
Step 3; split your pony in 2-3 sections
Step 4; take a section and tie a knot
Step 5; place it down so that it looks good and add Bobbi pins to secure it.
Step 6; repeat steps 4 and 5 until finished.

Tag me if you try it.

A moment of appreciation for this masterpiece.

I could do this work all day. Beautiful highlight and a haircut that is “literally the best I’ve ever had.”
It makes my heart sing.

Im totally kicking myself for not capturing a before photo. If you could see it you would see what a work of art this turned into.
Piper came to me with naturally dark roots that had grown out a couple inches, the back was dark and the top was light. I wanted to even out the overall look so it was more natural and wont look as harsh as she grows. Mission accomplished.

When you can’t come in every 6 or 8 weeks, you need a color that you feel good in for a long time.

For years I’ve watched curly girls suffer for dances and weddings, straightening their hair just to curl it then pin it all up anyway.
All that work.
All that time.
All that heat damage ruining their curl pattern.

Of course there are products and tool guidelines to help reduce heat damage.
But- unpopular opinion- don’t do it.
Or use it sparingly.

This not up updo was so fun, so quick, and so beautiful. She worked at her natural curl and definition in the morning, so I can’t take credit for that, but I do know what to pin and how to create the shape we wanted to make it feel full, even, off the face for a hot summer day.
I loved everything about this wedding style.

Maybe I make it look easy, but there’s plenty of indecision going on at my house.

We all go through these days where we don’t know what to wear or how to do our hair.
How do I feel today? What do I want people to think of me?
WHY WONT THIS PIECE CORPORATE???!!!

That’s where I land in the “good enough” zone so often.
I’ll be 40 in the fall and I’m just learning I can’t be bothered to be perfect anymore.
I never was, but that feeling gave way to insecurity.
F that.

Wear it. Wear it if you like it.

-and now I will give credit to the final hat in the vid. My grandmother gave it to my dad’s big head in the 80’s.

Just a hairstylist here in Davenport IA, loaning you some confidence to wear your dad’s old hat.

Not all grey coverage has to cover gray. A well placed foil and well executed toner will hide those grays longer than a simple base color.
We can age gracefully and still feel maintained while we do it.

I know my mama friends are looking for lower maintenance these days. But what does that look like when we love the color we have? Answer: usually softening the root and the over all color to make the grow out easier. Turning a 8 week color into a 10 or 12 week color means more kept in your wallet annually, and more time for the things you need or want to do.
