Wit & West
Denver, Colorado-based indie artisan perfumery handcrafting small-batch 100% all-natural botanical perfumes in-house.
Founded in 2021, Wit & West® Perfumes is an indie artisan natural perfumery focused on all-natural niche fragrances and unique scents that evolve as you wear them and don't smell like everything else. Based in Denver, Colorado, our small-batch perfumery is independently owned and operated by me (Wit) and my husband (West). All fragrances are designed, formulated, compounded, and bottled in-house by me, with West managing our in-house operations, including manufacturing, sourcing, branding, and creative content. Our perfumes and colognes are handcrafted in small batches using only the finest 100% natural botanicals and naturally derived ingredients. These include wildcrafted and organic essential oils, CO₂ extracts, absolutes, naturally derived isolates, and in-house created extractions, including tinctures and enfleurage extraits, many of which are sourced from raw materials grown in our very own garden. Our fragrances are genderless, vegan, and certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny. We are committed to sustainability throughout our process, from ingredient sourcing and small-batch production to packaging and shipping, with a focus on recyclable and minimalist materials. We also give back through annual donations to nonprofit organizations dedicated to environmental causes and protecting our planet. Wit & West is proud to be a 1% for the Planet Business Partner, donating 1% of our revenues each year to help protect the environment. Wit & West has been recognized by ÇaFleureBon’s Top 10 Perfumes of 2023 (with two fragrances selected) and by Skincare Anarchy as a Top Pick in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Our work has also been featured in Sierra Club Magazine, 303 Magazine, Fragrantica, Basenotes, Olfactif, IFragrance, I Sniff Before I Sleep, Organic Beauty Lover, The Editorialist, and more.

Thank you Cafleurebon and Cafleurebon Notes from The Lab for including my guest article on natural isolates on the ÇaFleureBon blog! Thank you to Michelyn for all your support and guidance on this piece, and Mandy Aftel for your beautiful quote and knowledge on this natural perfumery topic. ❤️🫶
ÇaFleureBon Notes From the Lab: What are Natural Isolates? + Wit & West Perfumes Giveaway - ÇaFleureBon Perfume Blog Natural isolates are defined as single aromatic molecules that are derived or “isolated,” from natural raw materials, enhancing accords
After an especially long, dry summer with record-breaking temps here in Colorado, the mornings and evenings are finally starting to feel like fall (a much-needed reprieve). West and I are looking forward to slower starts to the day and weekend getaways to the mountains.
We’re also embracing the season with botanical perfumes from our collection that feature warm, spicy, and cozy fragrances. Here are two of our favorites for the season from the Wit & West Signature Collection:
Jasmine Pet Noi Eau de Parfum is a spicy floral amber fragrance that recalls nights West and I spent wandering the vibrant markets and energetic streets of Bangkok. Featuring pink peppercorn, cardamom CO₂, clove, bitter orange, orange blossom, jasmine sambac, patchouli, palo santo, and our in-house amber accord of vanilla, labdanum, and benzoin. Spicy, floral, and ambery, it’s the perfect scent for cool fall evenings.
Honeysuckle Halcyon Eau de Parfum is inspired by the glitz and glamour of 1920s Chicago with its art deco, jazz, and speakeasies. This lush, heady floral features mimosa, peach, a rare honeysuckle absolute, jasmine sambac, vetiver, and patchouli. It’s golden-hour in a bottle.
Available in 1.5ml spray samples (individually or as part of one of our sample sets) as well as 15ml travel-size and 50ml full-size bottles at witandwest.com.

From start to finish, we believe it’s all in the details. From our botanical ingredients and packaging to our small-batch handcrafted process.
Each Wit & West perfume and cologne is designed, formulated, compounded, and bottled completely in-house and in small batches. West and I personally hand-pour each bottle, including samples, directly from the most recently compounded, aged, and filtered batch, just before it ships out to you.
And once your fragrance is bottled, we personally prepare your order, carefully package everything, and include a handwritten thank-you card.

One of the things that’s core to Wit & West is a belief that the creative process can’t be rushed. I’ve spent years working on a single perfume, refining every detail, and working through dozens (and dozens) of trials or perfume “mods”, until I feel like I’ve created something that aligns with my original vision. Sometimes revising my perfume formula takes months, and sometimes years.
This time around, two new perfumes came together at the same time. One will be the first new perfume for the Signature Collection since we launched Wit & West in 2021. The other one is a special collaboration perfume that has an even bigger surprise to go along with it (hint: it’s a project that a dear friend and I have been working on for over 2 years now!).
I can’t wait to share both perfumes with you later this year.

A question I am often asked is, “Why natural perfume?”
For me, the answer is rooted in a love for botanical ingredients and their connection to nature.
Natural materials are nuanced and complex. They carry stories of the places where they are grown, the people who cultivate them, and the traditions behind them. They can be finicky and unpredictable, requiring patience and curiosity, which is what makes working with them so rewarding.
At Wit & West, our focus is artisan natural perfumery, using a perfumer’s palette of all-natural botanical ingredients to create fragrances that are opulent, multi-layered, unique, and never boring.

One of our favorite parts of Wit & West is hearing what our fragrances evoke for each of you.
It means the world to us when you share your thoughts, memories, and experiences with others, whether that’s on social media, ÇaFleureBon, Basenotes, Parfumo, Fragrantica, Eau My Soul, or elsewhere. Your reviews, kind words, and recommendations mean more to us than you know, so thank you.
Here are a few of our favorite things fragrance lovers and writers have said about our botanical perfumes, from light-hearted and fun (“Sour Patch Kids” still makes us smile!) to beautifully atmospheric and evocative (“a fragrant herb garden”).
An especially big thank you to everyone I tagged who has shared their thoughts and reviews of our perfumes over the last 5 years. There are many more of you than I could tag in a single post, so thank you, too! ❤️

I am excited to share a guest article I wrote for the amazing Cafleurebon in their Cafleurebon Notes from The Lab series! The article is focused on "The Art of Slow Perfumery" and how I incorporate the concept into my process for Wit & West.
There is a giveaway for ÇaFleureBon readers. Check it out here: https://cafleurebon.com/cafleurebon-notes-from-the-lab-the-art-of-slow-perfumery-plus-wit-west-perfumes-giveaway/
ÇaFleureBon Notes From the Lab: The Art of Slow Perfumery + Wit & West Perfumes Giveaway - ÇaFleureBon Perfume Blog Wit & West perfumer Whitney explores the art of slow perfumery from ingredient selection to to the time-honored traditional enfleurage method
Today I am sharing Part 2 of my series answering your most common questions about enfleurage. In this part of the series, I am focusing on the 2nd phase of the process after the enfleurage pomade is ready for use as a perfume ingredient.
Keep watching for the process overview, and see below for common questions I get:
1. What do you do after the enfleurage pomade is ready?
Once the enfleurage pomade (a neutral fat such as coconut oil that has absorbed the scent of flowers) is ready, you can either use the pomade as-is in a solid perfume or extract it further for an alcohol-based perfume.
2. How do you create the enfleurage extrait?
The enfleurage extrait is created by washing or macerating the pomade in perfumers alcohol (like tincturing). The pomade and alcohol are then stored in a cool, dark, and dry area while the alcohol slowly absorbs the fragrance from the pomade, a process that can take several months. Once it’s ready, I cold-filter the alcohol to create the extrait for use in a perfume.
3. What do you do with the enfleurage pomade after you’ve washed it in perfumers alcohol?
I re-use the pomade as many times as possible by repeatedly washing it in alcohol until there is no scent left. In some cases, I can re-use the pomade 3+ times.
4. Which Wit & West fragrances include an enfleurage extrait?
Currently, the Wit & West perfume The Violetear uses an iris enfleurage extrait. I have also created enfleurage extraits from roses, lilacs, and peonies, all of which have taken 7+ years to accumulate enough material to use in a fragrance.
5. When will you release another perfume with an enfleurage extrait?
Slow perfumery takes time. Even once an enfleurage extrait is complete, the process still is not finished. I then have to formulate a perfume that the extrait can be incorporated into, a process that can take months or longer. Right now, I am continuing to work on finding the perfect formulation for my next limited-edition perfume featuring an enfleurage extrait. Creating fragrances in this way requires patience and experimentation, but for me, that is part of what makes the process so meaningful.
