Nourishment for Hair and Heart

03/04/2025

I forgot how physically beautiful, elegant and simple my mother was when she was young. And she dressed so elegantly...She had a lightness of being that shows in this picture.

I saw a woman yesterday that looked and felt just like my mother. It was a weird experience. I just looked at this woman and stared into her eyes. Her skin color, her eyes were just like my mons and she let me stare at her.

The Love Brush Revolution

Simplicity for Your Hair and Scalp Health

One of my most memorable birthdays, I spent brushing people's hair with my love brush, as I affectionately call it. I sat each person down in front of me and spent 10 minutes loving on their head and hair, as I moved their hair in all directions. The smile on their face and the calmness in their being made me happy. That was my birthday present to myself, giving people an experience...which is what I try to do with each client in my chair.

I tried to start a hair brushing revolution many years ago, because I inherently understood the importance of hair brushing and the cumulative effects brushing hair can have on the health of your hair and scalp and the look and feel of your hair. And from a somatic perspective, it will have an effect on your embodiment to you face, head, brain and the internal stuctures, bones, muscles, fascia, fluids and systems in your head. Yes, it really will. And if you think you do not need that, think again. Everyone of us needs more embodiment, deep and real embodiment.

People spend a lot of money on shampoos, conditioners, styling products, finishing products...and truth be told, no one needs very many products to make their hair look good. In fact, often those products create build up and dry out the hair.

So Simplify...a few tips.

Stop washing your hair everyday.

Buy the most natural shampoo you can (future newsletter to come about shampoo).

It does require a particular type of brush. Don't brush with just any brush.

Curly Gals think that hair brushing is not for them but curly hair is one of the most important textures to brush. The oils in the scalp cleanse and keep the hair hydrated and clean.

More tips to come in the future but for now, if you want to get started, click the link below and brush away. Love on your children, partners, friends and let your children brush your hair.

Start slow, baby steps to shifting the way you care for your hair. Brush two times a week for 10 minutes. Move your hair in all different directions, all around your head...and feel the natural oils begin to coat the hair.

I had the most incredible water session with a client. When I work with someone over time, their body relaxes in my arms and they melt and yield within the first few minutes. Then I can move and dance with their body with flow, ease and beauty. It is he-artful and ecstatic for the giver and so deeply nourishing for the receiver. My only endeavor is total presence and your only job is to open to receive. I had a client say, “everyone should be held like that at least once in their life as an adult”. And I say, not just once… it is such a harsh world right now, we need to be held like that and nourished weekly, daily and monthly. This gives us the resources within to carry the light for each other. Come be nourished and swim with me…

I had an incredible day today doing beauty and hair in the way I was meant to do it. For me, helping people with their hair is not about physical beauty, it’s about something deeper and it’s about transformation. I am waking up to true beauty and realizing how often in my life, I have chosen physical beauty over the deeper thing. In other words, I am waking up to the addiction to beauty in myself and in our culture and it’s quite shocking to see. I am waking up to how my relationship to beauty was so I could fit in, feel validated externally and be loved by a man and be somebody in the world. I spent my entire life pursuing being beautiful on some level in order to be loved, really believing you had to be beautiful to be loved. It’s kind of crazy as I wake up to the nuance and thread of this throughout my entire life. Even my pursuit of God and light was so I could be beautiful. How crazy is that? My pursuit had purity in it also but I am seeing the thread of this pursuit of beauty in everything I did in life. This picture is of me at my thinnest and most beautiful. This is not me any longer and it’s quite an awakening to lose physical beauty and get older that I don’t hear many people speak about. I know I don’t want to waste any more time clutching on to the pursuit of beauty. There is nothing wrong with enjoying beauty. It’s just when it’s the driving force…so back to today…why did I have such an ecstatic day besides being immersed in God this morning with my meditation community, I had incredible session teaching someone how to style their curly hair. I got to direct the craft of being with their hair, communing with their hair, how to use the product, what hand to hold the blow dryer, what it sounds like to form the perfect curl, when to mold their hair with hair spray and how to fluff the hair at the root. She was a great student: eager, open, willing and I got to talk with her straight about her relationship to beauty. Don’t go for trying to make your hair be perfect. Don’t try to control it. Just be with yourself and hair in a way that is has expression of who you are deep within in this moment of time. Beauty is about finding the beautiful gem within.

I am opening my body and heart and this is no easy task. Years and years of practice and meditation to open. This week my body has felt like an electric live wire with all the energy running through my system. It was very difficult to stay embodied. I tried many different tools but the only one that landed was compression. My body was screaming for compression and while a weighted blankets serves at times, it was not going to cut it this time. I needed a live breathing warm human to therapeutically compress me. No matter how you slice it, it’s a vulnerable ask to request someone lay their body on top of yours or wrap their body around your body and squeeze and hold tight. Lucky for me, I have friends and friends who know bodyworkers that will understand the request for compression. It’s also a vulnerable art to ask for something you need in a world that deems need as weakness. I am learning to embrace that I am a human with needs. And so I asked. Then I received 30 minutes of compression and my nervous system settled and I’m back in my body. My friend remembered one of her bodyworker teachers told her the way to calm a woman down if she is agitated is to lay on top of her. Of course, only at her request. Compression is so important and I don’t hear many people speaking about it. So I am outing the need for compression. And I’m looking for friends or bodyworkers that want to explore compression together and how it can help the nervous system among other systems in the body. DM me if you feel pulled.

I was having a hard day. I had pain, anger and fear in my heart and instead of pretending I had it all together, I shared vulnerably what was real. My beautiful client prayed out loud for me with her hand on my back and it was such a beautiful prayer. She prayed directly for me out loud and I am not sure I quite had that experience before. She had this warm and faithful mother energy. She said, sometimes you give to me and other times when I’m resourced I give to you. Exchange of prayer and love and the sparkle in her eye and that awesome looking hair. And guess what, my pain lifted and now I’m eating Indian food outside in North Boulder. It’s turning into a beautiful night, clear skies after a brief rain…just like my heart.
